  1. I get very upset when ads for this movie play. There are so many imbedded and unanalyzed conclusions in the premise of the movie that it is frustrating. Namely that if the state legalizes crime and makes it so they wont be there to save you, then everyone goes crazy and kills people. Or that everyone going crazy and killing people 12 hours a year somehow will create a utopia where no kids and families feel negative side effects. Or that "the purge" brings a lot of good to the world like a god.

So frustrating. Maybe the plot brings other conclusions, I'm not sure, but the trailer makes it seem like a really bad movie, but it is getting a lot of hype and support.

  2. It is not the only defense, but one of the defenses available.

This one allows them to ignore certain facts so that they can continue to believe in religion. Selectively ignoring the bad stuff is convenient.

Though I am sure you understand some of the reasons why people believe in religion and need these defenses and how it has very little to do with the facts.

  3. Hello and welcome!

I, for one, would appreciate more information as to how you changed your mind. What arguments worked well for you? What were your relationships with the people around you? Who exposed you to these ideas? It can be very interesting to learn what things work and what things do not- at least in your anecdotal experience.

  4. I pre-ordered a single in november when it was around $1300 ($1400 after fees and shipping) and I still have not recieved it almost to June now when I expected it in December. My understanding is that I will get it soon, however they failed specs and now it is worth $2500. My plan is to immediately sell it for around $2200 and make the $800 profit once I get it.

While they may work fine, BFL really, really sucks. I don't know if there are any other options for ASICs, but after my experiences I would never do business with them again. They seem to finally be rolling them out (the like 10th time they've been close) but this time I may actually get it in enough time to immediately sell it. They have no info, aren't allowing refunds, and may not give you your product for nearly a year. If this sounds like a good deal, then buy lots from the scumbags at BFL.

By the way, BFL execs sold themselves miners first so they have been mining and making money for months at the expense of their customers. Such scumbags.

  5. I'm not gonna lie, I laughed and then repeated this joke to some co-workers. However, I don't quite understand what being a libertarian has to do with the 3rd guy's actions. Regardless, it was still quite funny.

  6. So I am getting set up to move out of my house, get a new job, and get corrupt people out of my life. In order to do this, I likely will not be able to continue my therapy as I likely will move looking for a new job, new place to live, etc and the money I am currently spending for therapy will have to go to bills, at least in the near term.

The next couple months of therapy will be talking about some of this stuff, making sure it is the right decision, processing my emotions.

However, what I most want to do is to continue my therapy in the "Daniel Mackler Method" of self-therapy. I will be going back and listening to some of those podcasts and getting myself set on a journaling schedule. I am wondering if anyone has any experience or advice in this area. What are some workbooks I should check out? What strategies do people use for journaling and dream journaling? Questions to ask or schedule people use?

I definitely want to continue to move forward even though I will not be able to afford it in the near term.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can provide.

People are arrested every day in America, often on
false charges. So what makes Adam Kokesh's recent arrest at the fifth
Smoke Down Prohibition event such a big deal?

Since I broke the story last night on Digital Journal and The Liberty Sun, I have been closely monitoring the arrest
of marine veteran and talk show host Adam Kokesh at the fifth "Smoke
Down Prohibition" event in Philadelphia; But aside from the fact that
Adam is a prominent figure in the alternative media, what makes this
story so important? Upon analyzing the situation, it's easy to come to
the conclusion that there could be more to this story than meets the
eye; and in this piece I hope to provide a strong account of the various
aspects of this story which have me asking questions.

As many already know, Adam Kokesh was planning a peaceful armed march on
Washington, D.C. on July 4th. Many people, myself included, are
suspicious that perhaps Adam was specifically targeted because of this
plan, which has garnered plenty of criticism from the mainstream world.

Theorizing Kokesh's targeting by the feds is justified for several
reasons. For one, Kokesh has attended several other events of a similar
nature and has never been arrested for his demonstration. Aside from
that, everyone who was in attendance at the event claims that Kokesh had
not yet smoked marijuana nor was he doing anything to break the law at
the time he was arrested. In fact, the only charges that have been
brought against him, according to what is now public knowledge, are
resisting arrest and refusal to submit to processing at the jail. Of
course, any sane individual can see that these charges do not stand on
their own and would be no reason for arresting Kokesh in the first
place. Arresting someone for resisting arrest is like killing someone
because they died; it just doesn't make any logical sense.

In addition to not having any formal charges against him (at least none
currently known to the public) Kokesh has not been in contact with
anyone. According to some of Kokesh's employees, he has not been in
contact with family or friends, including his staff members and his
    girlfriend.

I am not the only one asking questions about Kokesh's arrest, however.
Radio host and filmmaker Alex Jones interviewed two of Kokesh's staff
members on the Sunday edition of his radio show today and says he has
plans to have them back on for tomorrow's show. He released a
on YouTube directly following his show in which he discussed the 'fishiness' of Kokesh's arrest.

Kokesh's staff is asking supporters to come out to Philadelphia tomorrow, when he is set to face a judge to set bail.

This article I think is a much better conclusion.

The time has come to recognize the overwhelming evidence regarding
the importance of early relationships in healthy emotional development.
The answer to the problem posed in the CDC report is in: invest in early
childhood -from newborn to three- to prevent mental health disorders
    and promote mental health.

A huge part of this evidence comes from the CDC itself, with the ACES study,
showing long-term negative impact on both physical and emotional health
of a range of adverse childhood experiences.  An abundance of research
coming from the discipline of infant mental health provides a more
    nuanced view of this issue.

     When parents are
supported and valued by society, they are able to be fully present with
their children, in turn helping to grow healthy brains. Children who
grow up in an attuned caregiving environment are flexible, resilient,
and empathic.  In contrast, when children experience toxic stress, or
stress in the absence of a safe, secure caregiving relationship, the
parts of their brains responsible for emotional regulation do not
develop normally. What results are symptoms that are then labeled
    "mental illness."

Though the author still proposes statist solutions, of course.

"Changes in estimated prevalence over time
might be associated with an actual change in prevalence, changes in case
definition, changes in the public perception of mental disorders, or
improvements in diagnosis, which might be associated with changes in
policies and access to health care," the study said.

    Perou
told Reuters more research was needed to determine the specific causes
of mental disorders, and that greater awareness could lead to an uptick
in diagnoses. A host of environmental factors, including chemical
exposure and poverty, can also affect a child's mental health, she said.

    Lead,
for example, is known to be "one of the biggest toxins to impact
behavior and learning," Perou said. Poor children are at a higher risk
for developing certain conditions, according to the study.

  10. I think I have similar ideas and concerns as you.

Obviously, I do not know why, but my guess would be that in their relationships currently, "loving" someone does cover up what they did wrong. So their parents hurt and abused them in some way and continue to into adulthood, but they deserve love, and thus they are good. It is the idea of getting everyone to become you or your family, and thus they acquire the properties of being morally good no matter what evils may be (or have been) perpetrated.

I will see if anyone else has a better theory.

  11. I am sorry for the situation you are in. I have been in similar situations in the past and it can be very difficult to know what to do.

I have some questions if you don't mind elaborating:

What about the start of the relationship made you feel so close? What virtues did she exemplify through her actions?

Do you know what you are feeling and what A is feeling in the current relationship and interactions? Where was the undesired behavior learned? Why is the behavior undesired? (Maybe you have done this, but in reading your post, it seems that you may not have been curious as to the other's experience and you two may have tried to find solutions without understanding the problem.)

Where do you think these trends you are finding originally started? Most likely, it goes back further than B, though I may be wrong.

What are some of the things you feeling like you would be settling on?

  12.

The odds that a single Big Bang would produce a single fine-tuned universe are incredibly small. For me and many others, this raises the question: What is the most reasonable explanation for a fine-tuned universe?

    1. Chance.
    2. An intelligent creator.
    3. A multiverse.

Your answer seems to be, "The fine-tuned universe doesn't need an explanation. It just is."

I respect that. Such an answer would do away my original quesion, which was about contemplating the ramifcations of a multiverse (Bigfoot butlers). I mistakenly assumed that most atheists felt the need to explain the fine-tuned universe and went with the multiverse explanation. It appears that is not the case. They either go with Chance or feel no need to answer the question.

Describing reality as having been brought about by chance is a fundamental misunderstanding of the world around you. Chance assumes that the world is created right now and has all the properties that it does now. If you took this assumption and denied trillions of years of history before this point, then yes, one of your choices would be the only options.

However, it is not how it happened. Matter exists the way that it does BECAUSE it is the only way that it can exist. If matter did not behave in this way, then it would not exist. This does not need cosmic forces, chance, or a multiverse. It is a simple explanation of how reality is.

Yes, if the strong nuclear force was a slightly different constant, then molecules and matter as we know it oculd not exist. However, this means that these supposed multiverses that contain this non-existant matter do not exist.

The reason why we study what the constant is is to further understand the world around us. The fact that that number is what it is because it is the only way it could be makes perfect sense in the existence of a single reality that has developed. The development necessitated these numbers.

  13.

Some scientists say "yes," some say "no," other say "not yet."

It's vexing. I am terribly vexed.

This is an appeal to an authority's opinion and is not even an attempt at providing evidence. Just saying.

A "scientist" can "say" whatever garbage they want. That doesn't mean it is evidence and that certainly doesn't mean it is true.

  14.

Ok I was using this as a premise for debate, and the below paragraphs were a few counters that I didn't know how to answer, training and profession would PREVENT just any Person X FROM DOING Y wouldn't it, you can't just operate on somebody without training, or become a machinist etc., doesn't that debunk it?

No. It would not. The moral position is you are not allowed to do anything to anyone without their permission. In order to get their permission, you may need training or proof of training.

  15. Training or education is not a question of morality. I am allowed to go to anyone I want to for my medical services, whether or not they are officially accedited in any way.It is a voluntary contract between me and the provider, and they must fill whatever my personal qualifications are - thus it is a preference and not morality.

Can you provide an example of a moral rule that is logically true but fail UPB? I am somewhat confused by the question.
