Sorry if this has been talked about, but I need some insight on this topic. I was debating against some liberals, and they mentioned this social contract thing when I said I was against welfare because it was basically theft and a distribution of money. They said it was apart of our social contract, and I replied "I never signed this contract you are describing". So I looked it up (a little) and it said that Socrates was the first one to ever talk about it. I never saw anything about an oblilgation for me to just give my money unwillingly to people. I tried to tell them that I was for charity,but not stealing, which welfare is. So, is my logic off? What exactly is this social contract stuff? What are the terms of this said contract?
