Backlash from friends about Supporting Trump
HeyMorpheus replied to taraelizabeth21's topic in General Messages
He's an intelligent person, but it seems lately he has stopped "feeding his mind". I've sent him dozens on dozens of Stefan's presentations on YouTube. He follows me on Twitter and sees me frequently Tweet FDR links, but he is choosing not to watch them. I've reached out to him a few times to have some discussions but he looks for excuses not to talk. I don't know what else to do at this point. -
Backlash from friends about Supporting Trump
HeyMorpheus replied to taraelizabeth21's topic in General Messages
I am getting a little bit. Not so much outright backlash but there is a noticeable silence from my friends when I speak out in support of Trump. You know the type of uncomfortable silence that follows after you tell a joke or make a comment that other people are offended by. Recently a good friend told me Trump was a fascist. I will give a summary of the conversation. Friend: "Trump is a fascist so I will not vote for him." Me: "How is Trump a fascist?" Friend: "Seriously dude?" Me: "Yes, I am being serious. How is Trump a fascist?" Friend: "His policies and stuff. Just like Mussolini." Me: "That's not a very good argument. I'm asking you to specifically tell me how Trump is a fascist." Friend: "Forget it man you're being ridiculous." Might be worth mentioning he calls himself "AnCap", and any solution to a problem that is not 100% AnCap he opposes. -
Chuck Johnson at GotNews.com has written some analysis of this situation, which you can find here http://gotnews.com/analysis-lynching-brock-turner-brockturner/ When the sentencing came out there was a lot of outrage from the usual suspects: white knights, feminists, and leftists in general. The 3-6 month sentence immediately set off my bullshit detector and I knew some key facts were intentionally withheld from the main stream media. Chuck's analysis is inline with what I was starting to ponder for myself and it filled in missing knowledge the the prosecution dropped the rape charge after seeing DNA evidence. The entire thing reeks of something Stefan has discussed in his videos- women do not want to be held accountable for their poor decisions. This woman made a series of spectacularly bad decisions, regretted it the next morning, and you know the rest. I will say, I'm still unclear about a key element of the story- Two Swedish exchange students supposedly saw this going down and tackled Turner who tried to escape. Anyone know anything I don't?

Didn't see this being discussed, so apologies if discussion exists. For those that may not know, a SRO (school resource officer) attempted to remove a "disruptive" student from class last week. This was after the student was asked to leave class by both a teacher and school administrator. A friend that recorded the incident on her phone was also arrested. All of this resulted in the police officer being fired yesterday. What's everyone's opinion on this? The student refused to leave but I don't think it was necessary to slam her on the ground. What caused her to be so defiant in the first place? Something lead up to this and I haven't seen it discussed. The narrative, of course, is that she was being polite and minding her on business when a police officer descended on her of nowhere, like a meteor, and threw her on the ground. There has also been the usual race-baiting in my Facebook feed, though I'm not sure if that is trending nationally. Was the officer justified or no? How should/could he have handled it differently? "X years expirence required"
HeyMorpheus replied to cab21's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
It's an attempt to weed-out unqualified applicants. I recently went through a job search and saw a lot of this. In my field (Electrical Engineering), there are a lot of recent-grads that can punch numbers in a calculator or explain a theory or principle, but can't produce or do anything. If an employer is looking for an EE that can come in and immediately being contributing to the company with little ramp-up time, they will list a "X years experience" on the listing. Think of it like this: you have children for the first time, you have zero years experience. You are learning a lot as you go. Same with a job. Some employers are in need of an employee that doesn't need any learning or ramp-up time. -
I can't find a job, why?
HeyMorpheus replied to Daniel Unplugged's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I just finished a job search that lasted about six months. I have been employed this entire time, but wasn't happy with my current job responsibilities. This sums up my thoughts as well. Hiring employees is has become very expensive, and employers want to be absolutely certain the candidate fits in with other employees, the overall office culture, and has the background and experience necessary to do the job well. If any employer doesn't get a good vibe for any of those reasons it could lead to rejection of your application/resume. -
Net Neutrality
HeyMorpheus replied to HeyMorpheus's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
This is where my thinking always takes me. The current state of internet services, bandwidth, etc, has been influenced by state interference. It's really hard to know what the telecom landscape would look like in a completely voluntary society. -
I want to make certain I understand the overall concept. "Internet service providers will put access to different websites into "tiers", and then charge varying fees to access each tier of sites. Similar to the way cable television offers access to more channels depending on what subscription you have. This is a bad thing and must be stopped by government coercion." Do I understand this correctly or is there more to it than this?

I'm moving to Nashville next week and would be interested in a hangout.
