  1. Hi all, I am doing a project to create some videos and to contribute to the "best of 2017" podcasts. There is a lot of cutting and searching for specific topics. Though I am coming to realize it is like finding a needle in a haystack because podcasts are very long,(some of the best Stef rants are spontaneous) Stef tends to go off on tangents that might be off topic or only somewhat related to the descriptions and tags. Though I do remember Stef saying that they have software that compiles each podcast into a transcript. If I can search all of the transcripts rather than the description it would help a ton. Does anyone know if these are available? I am currently searching for a call in show podcast where I remember Stef talking about archaic civilizations, and great storytellers speaking over campfires. A deal between the storyteller and the warlord is made...they both are able to rule over the tribe in a mutually beneficial deal. Does anyone know what podcast this is? Thanks in advance!

    Chicago

Hi everyone, My name's Jake, accountant, just moved downtown. If we can get a handful of people interested in the Chicago area, I will be organizing a meetup. Looking forward to it! Just let me know.

    Chicago?

Hello Hello, Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Pink Floyd aside, anyone in Chicago who wants to hang out, post here!
  4. Suicide rates amoung white men are at an all time high. We are simply taking ourselves out of the equation because the environment is very anti-white. Ironically we are the ones that need "safe spaces" the most.
  5. The title itself reflects the conciousness of Americans right now. America has become so polarized in the last few years. You might even expect a civil war if trends continue
  6. I would like to read that, do you have a link?
  7. I think he has an interesting theory. Regardless, the aim should be to put these videos in some sort of context. So we can see if they are BS. I refer back to my thought experiment as a method to do this. If enough people are interested to see, I might do it and post the results.
  8. Hey guys, With all the Back to the Future craze as of late. I came across this video. I consider myself a rational guy, but I have to admit it's pretty compelling. Here it is: At least in the begining there is a "sophistry" disclaimer. Any who, I was thinking about a thought experiment that could be used to disprove/debunk videos like these that rely on drawing connections and metaphors between events and objects. For example: We could pick an arbitrary or imaginary event, then see how many connections we can draw to a random movie. Then see if we can make a reasonably coherent story that connects the two without sounding batshit crazy. If this task yields no connections that seem meaningful or predictive relative to our selected event, it would suggest there is something more to the "Back to the future predicts 9/11 video" If we can do this easily, we can safely say it is just a trick and a bit of coincidence. What do you guys think?
  9. So it's decided, we shall open an anarchist hungarian soup kitchen!
  10. I agree. I have been told before that I often 'overthink' things, its good to keep in mind moving forward.
  11. Hi Bruce! Looks like your interests fit very well! So the general business idea is for people who get their sequencing data from sites like 23andme.com then run it through promethease.com I think some people can't be bothered to sift throught and interpret all the information. This is were we add value. We would just need a very simple site, and some people who can take the information and write up a concise, actionable report for the customer. Though it would be tough to get people interested in this kind of thing. Would need a sales effort to get people interested. I'm not even sure if its a good enough idea, which is why I want to brainstorm a bit
  12. I stand corrected captain! and 'philosophical master race' was just a quip on my part I should be careful not to mess with teabaggers, especially the professional type such as yourself
  13. Given that we're all part of the philisophical master race here, in theory we should be able to outperform if we tried our hand in the business world. Lets put that to the test. There are a large group of people in these forums with qualifications and untapped potential that I am curious to see. Despite the environment of regulation, affirmative action and bloated bureaucratic corporations, there are always oportunities in the marketplace. It is just a matter of spotting them, with the right people and the right plan. Post your interests, education, qualifications below. Also we can discuss some low capital entrepreneurial ideas and business plans. I will start: -I have a bachelor's degree in Finance and a certificate in Molecular Biology -I know Mandarin at an intermediate-advanced level -Have worked in expense management in heavy industry companies in China -Also worked in general business roles in the U.S. -Interested in entrepreneurship, genetics and philosoply of course One possible area for a business opportunity might be genetic consulting. For example, I got my DNA tested and looked up vitamin deficiencies that I am suceptable to. This gene counseling can possibly be sold to customers. Just a thought Please chime in! -Jake
  14. If you do the organic farm route, you can dedicate the winters (or however long the off season is) to writing your book! That being said, I would make sure to check with the local laws about food sales. Regulations have beome worse and worse and these days. Even roadside farmers markets are being shut down. Anyways, That's a tough call, maybe you can visit a farm to get an idea of what the everyday work would be like. Then you can compare it to your past "real job" experience to see which one would be emotionally sustainable long term.
