  1. I second the korean and swedish thriller movies. There is one movie with the guy who plays Jamie on Game of Thrones with english subtitles and it is unique and awesome. My favorite korean movie is "The Man from nowhere"

    I saw the devil is pretty crazy too. And there is Oldboy and the remake of Oldboy, super super crazy.

    I think the film with subtitles you are refering to is the Norwegian film "Headhunters". Great film.

    I found Funny Games (the original version) to be deeply disturbing. A good thing about subtitles is that you can fast-forward through most of a movie and still know what is going on.

    My recommendations (that have not already been listed) are:

    Under the Skin

    Triangle

    The Battery

    Lost Highway

    Accident

    The Method

    The Counselor

    Revolver

    Ca$h

    Fargo (TV series)

    The Hunter

    Requiem for a Dream

    Van Diemen's Land

    The Ghost Writer

    Solaris

  2. I like SimplyRain. It makes the silence of my room less deafening.

    Some apps I use are:

    Texter, a text substitution app.

    Anki, a flashcard and spaced-repetition app that helps me stop forgetting what I have learned.

    Memorization Tool, which creates first-letter cues for a piece of text that you may want to memorise. For example:

    In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
    A stately pleasure-dome decree:
    Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
    Through caverns measureless to man
       Down to a sunless sea.
    So twice five miles of fertile ground
    With walls and towers were girdled round;
    And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
    Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
    And here were forests ancient as the hills,
    Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

    Becomes:

    I X d K K
    A s p-d d:
    W A, t s r, r
    T c m t m
       D t a s s.
    S t f m o f g
    W w a t w g r;
    A t w g b w s r,
    W b m a i-b t;
    A h w f a a t h,
    E s s o g.
  3. Obviously there are different kinds of therapy suited for different kinds of ''problems''. Would you mind elaborating a little more?

    If I had "problems", it would be general anxiety and recurring bouts of depression. All stemming from a lack of self-knowledge I am sure. Until recently I had no idea what career I wanted to pursue and I have this overall sense that I could be doing much better than I currently am if only I just "fixed" what was wrong with me, whatever that was.

    Measuring the success of schools of therapy is tricky due to what they call "allegiance bias" which is exactly what it sounds like.

    A far better predictor of success in therapy is the actual therapeutic relationship, healthy boundaries, feelings of alliance and allegiance between client and therapist, things that allow for the client to feel safe working on things instead of working against themselves.

    This video is relevant too and goes into some depth what success means and generally what the benefits of therapy are:

    Thanks for pointing me to that article. Instead of trying to figure out which model is best, I should just find a good therapist and work with the model they think would be most helpful.

    Perhaps looking into the various models is a form of procrastination on my part.

  4.

    MaidSafe

    From the MaidSafe Wikipedia article:

    "MaidSafe is an open-source program that enables a decentralized internet platform, called the SAFE Network. MaidSafe autonomously handles static and dynamic data including communications. Data stored on the network is either encrypted or cryptographically signed by MaidSafe connected applications (clients). In either case the network itself cannot decrypt any of the data. MaidSafe also distributes all data on the network without the need for centralized servers."

    These are just some of my thoughts:

    I think some business models will need changing when MaidSafe is ready to be released to the public. The likes of the major hollywood studios and ISPs will not be able to use threats to stop the illegal downloading of films, music, books etc.

    MaidSafe may make the donation-based economy the norm, at least in the digital realm.

    IMO it will have a greater impact on the world than Bitcoin. MaidSafe's altcoin, Safecoin, may even replace Bitcoin as the most widespread and valuable (in Market Cap) crytocurrency.

    It may reduce FDR's business costs like bandwidth etc.

    MaidSafe may eventually replace the internet as the main global network as people rationalise their server and bandwidth costs.

    Has anyone else on this forum come across MaidSafe? I only found out about it because someone mentioned it over at Liberty.me. The topic of conversation was one of Jeffery Tucker's articles on Netflix.

  5. I saw the movie "Prisoners" yesterday and I thought it was pretty good. A thought I had about the movie was that the title was well chosen because children, even those who are not kidnapped, are not in their situations voluntarily. The movie, I think, showed the massive power parents have over their children by having a plot based around abducted children.

    There is more to the movie than that, these are just some initial thoughts of mine.

    Has anyone else in this forum seen the movie and if so what are your thoughts?

    Also, do you think my short analysis is correct? I would really like to read an analysis of this movie by someone else on this forum.
