  1. Is it that the genetic modification to the food isn't necessarily harmful itself, but that the chemicals used on the GM plants is the harmful part?

In other words, you can genetically modify corn to be able to handle glyphosate, but the food isn't harmful unless the chemical is used?

Disclaimer: I've not done much research on the subject, and haven't even fully read the arguments put forth in this thread.

  2. I also drive safely, but not exactly as xmas light would tell me to do. However, I wouldn't do this if I had a passenger since I do not have the right to risk their time.

I'm not sure about the driver's obligation in that scenario.  It could also be that the passenger implicitly accepted the driver's route and driving preferences by accepting the role of passenger?

  3. and If it has blue flashing lights on top all the better.... :D

Seriously though, those are amazing, would you be willing to ship to the U.K?

    obviously I'd cover postage.

That's no problem. Just PM me the address and options you'd like.

  4. I wouldn't say racing cars late at night is worse than drunk driving, but you can easily lose control (especially in a Lamborghini) and end up going through the wall of a house and possibly into a child's room.

It's also a dickhead move to be racing loud cars through neighborhoods at 4:00am.

  5. Are you really asking, "If violence is not just bad period, in what way(s) could it be good?" Violence can be good if used to protect people and property from aggression, and if used to implement moral dispute resolutions.

No, I used the word spanking specifically for a reason. In the OP you said "Admittedly I am coming around to the FDR view that spanking is just bad period".

'Coming around' implies ambivalence.  Which means you might think spanking could be good in some way.  I was just curious as to what way spanking a child could be good, even if it is part of a previously arranged agreement for "dispute resolution with a child".

  6.

What got me thinking about this is the topic of spanking. Admittedly I am coming around to the FDR view that spanking is just bad period, but I am not clear on how spanking represents aggression if it is preformed as part of a dispute resolution.

As in a dispute resolution between the parent and the child?

...and if spanking's not just bad period, in what way(s) could it be good?

  7. It would be nice if people loved the truth, even if just marginally. It would be nice if people loved the truth, however so slightly.

Instead, truth is the most hated thing in the world.

So I have steeled my mind to accept people's hatred. Being liked and speaking true things that are at the same time important aren't traits that go hand-in-hand.

It would be nice if they loved the truth, or your truth?  I'm not claiming to know whether your truth is accurate or not, just to be clear.

I dunno, maybe it's not the truth that they hate but how you present your claims of the truth?

  8. So is there really Free speech on this forum or does the majority decide what you say is false & that's how it goes? The reputation system is weird & disingenuous.

This is not a forum of free speech. It is a forum of speech within the forum guidlines.

Rather, this system is in place to keep people out of the discussion who might raise uncomfortable issues. Such as me. As I am very good at making everyone in the room uncomfortable. I take pride in my ability to do that. Because I figure that if what I am saying to you doesn't strike you as odd and objectionable, then I'm not actually conveying new information to you.

In order for me to serve you, I must offend you first. In order for me to please you, I must first make you hate me.

So in no instances in your life you've managed to serve people without offending them and you haven't pleased anyone that doesn't hate you?

    ----------------

As for the restriction of free speech, the extent of it only goes to the point that people have to take one extra step to click on your post to read it. The necessity to do this can also be disabled if one chooses.
