A military question for veterans
B1-66ER replied to TheKiosk94's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I'm pulling these particular comments out of the post because of there inherent idiocy. 1. OK, so your not actually a Marine? You just want to become one, correct? 2. Tell the thousands of soldiers who have committed suicide, "PTSD is bullshit". The only thing that remotely resembles bullshit regarding PTSD is it's name, and how to effectively treat it without the bumbling and meddlesome state creating even more problems than it already has. 3. Did your recruiter tell you this or did you come up with this factually void "idea" yourself? The government and big pharma love PTSD. It created an entirely new market of damaged souls to buy into their SSRI's and mind poison! Chemically lobotomized consumers are easily suggestible and dependent. Don't forget the fact they're always repeat buyers as well. I once found nobility in "service" to be an noble trait, after having served I realized how easily war mongers can manipulate the idealistic. Seeing as how he isn't very enlightened or particularly rational about the idea of killing people for the state, it seems war mongers can manipulate the stupid a lot easier. -
I'm guessing it's an attempt by an ill-informed yet aspiring entrepreneur who has goals in the film industry, to "break out" and become "famous". I can't fault him for his industriousness, but his lack of perspective is mind-numbing.

He certainly makes a compelling case. However in my infinitely falsifiable opinion, I do enjoy the taste of flesh, specifically flesh of the sea. I am a seafood fanatic, and no matter how much he'd liked to compare me to an SS death camp guard, I will continue to feast on the flesh of aquatic life, simply because it tastes good.(Not to mention the myriad of other positive benefits of a seafood diet) I can honestly say i'll never enjoy a glass of milk again though...I'll stick to the soy alternative.

Creating and collaborating with others in the musical arts is not therapeutic, it's cathartic, as all honest art should be! I try my hardest not to view music in a strictly utilitarian light, but unfortunately like most other aspects of modernity, music and art have become a commodity. Music and art are (or should be) transcendent. It lifts us from the plastic, vapid existence of instant self gratification into the higher realms of thought and beauty. I may have some romantic notions about music and to a lesser extent art, but I won't apologize for them. So long as Hollywood and the mainstream pump out an avalanche of pre-packaged-dollar-store shit, i'll always have a reminder of what I never want become. Also I suggest EVERYONE watch Roger Scruton's "Why Beauty Matters". It's amazing, and it speaks to this point more eloquently than I ever could. It's not on youtube thanks to the fucking BBC but it can be found on other video streaming sites.

Regarding real estate as investment in the US...Go for it if you have the capital! Do not go into debt to obtain land unless you're 100% certain you can pay it back and are allowed to pay it back early. Many banks won't allow you to pay off your death-pledge early without paying penalties, and in some cases they can be pretty significant. Also be aware, in the US, the state owns your land, you only rent it. If you do not pay your property taxes etc, the state can and will repossess your land and sell it back to the bank for dirt cheap. Unless you can obtain allodial title, which is quite rare. Allodial title is absolute ownership of property without a debt or lien attached. Though the state would likely just use force anyway to steal your land, it might be a moot point, unfortunately. Considering the burgeoning market of legalized marijuana in Colorado and Washington, you may want to look into recent start-ups with a sound business model. The potential for entrepreneurs and investors is nearly limitless considering most mainstream banks won't go near the marijuana business. Other than that the future of centrally planned economics looks pretty fucking grim. I don't recommend anyone invest time, energy and money in the global pyramid scheme. It's a paper tiger, a straw house, and the fucking wolf is on his way. Investing in physical wealth is never a bad option IMO, though others (usually invested in the system) will tell you its foolish and short-sighted. Invest in gold, silver and especially lead.

Reminds me of Rifle PT....Torture by another name.

I'm going to borrow a quote from Ben Stewart to provide my perspective on this topic..."The truth is revealed in the result" What happened after Sandy Hook? Hysterical and misinformed claims about "assault rifles". Liberal demagogues spewing unsubstantiated rhetoric about the number of "mass murders" in the US...Talk of reinstating the AWB... THE FUCKING SAFE ACT.(Sorry, I live in NY) These pieces of human filth pimped out the innocence and lack of perspective of little children to pull on the heart strings of the American public. They paraded children in front of television cameras to parrot the ultimate statist's wet-dream of, "Only the police and military should have guns." The circumstances surrounding the incident are fishy, to say the least. Sorry if i'm a bit skeptical about what comes across the screen of the glowing propaganda box that currently sits unplugged in my living room.

I suppose I should apologize, I couldn't imagine being pressed into the service of such an overtly evil institution. I survived Iraq by the skin of my nuts with the American war machine so I can empathize. I realize now, prison would have been a lot easier and less costly.

Really? When was the last time anyone in the military was charged with the crime of "shirking"? UCMJ Article 115 technically refers to it as "malingering" and uses the term "shirking" only as a descriptor. Unless I suspect you're referring to another nations military considering the US military is entirely composed of volunteers.

I certainly don't mean to misjudge or invalidate your own perceptions about the nature of your own addiction, but i'd say this is quite an accomplishment. I've seen less fortunate people plunge into the downward spiral of alcoholism in about 1/5th (no puns intended) the time you've mentioned above, myself included. After an opiate addiction I acquired as a consequence of being a hired gun for the US war machine, I thought alcohol would help ease the agonizing screech of opiate-deficient receptors screaming at me every waking moment of everyday! Honestly about 4-5 beers was just a good start to the night for me at about 3 or 4 months into testing my recent hypothesis. I won't bore you with the details but it wasn't long until I needed to drink a few more shots of Mr. Boston after vomiting, just to be able get back to sleep again. I'd say you're ahead the curve. If you sincerely believe it's effecting you, then it is. The trick is understanding why it is, and what steps (if any) are needed to remedy the situation. This is normal, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Decreased energy and enthusiasm in pleasure-seeking activity is also a common symptom of depression however. You may want to explore the causal reasons why you believe you have a problem with alcohol to begin with. YMMV but I actually tapered off of alcohol. I did the same with opiates as well and thankfully alcohol was much easier. In less than a month of total abstinence I was playing drums again, enjoying meaningful conversation and sleeping through an entire night. I still have nightmares though, mostly about using, drinking, losing my penis and bizarre renditions of memories past.

Yes and no, the Army has a euphemism for it nowadays but the underlying sentiment is still present.

I'm referring exclusively to verbal/mental abuse. My thinking is, how can one be made aware of a transgression he doesn't know he committed?! You can't see an invisible line you've crossed until someone says you've crossed it.

If that's the implication you've gathered I would suggest reading it again. I thought I clearly defined aggression as being physical and mental, but if I was unclear, I apologize. The mental/verbal abuse aspect is more difficult to clearly define which was the crux of my argument.

Larken Rose: Statist Contradictions
B1-66ER replied to JSDev's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I suppose it doesn't matter, I was simply establishng the basis upon which private property has traditionally been defined. If you insist it isn't a western or cultural opinion but a universal truth, to-ma-to ta-mah-toh, in either case it's applicable and the basis of private ownership. -
To me the NAP is crystal clear and unambiguous, NON AGGRESSION being the operative words in my line of reasoning. Having said that I do believe there is a difference between insults and abuse, the latter of course violating the NAP when the offended person has made the offender aware of such offence. The issue of children will inevitably arise and of course mentally abused women, but again unless the offender has been specifically warned of his abuses, I don't know that it could actually be construed as a violation of this principle. However regarding libel and slander, when it effects your ability to conduct business, you have every reason and cause to seek a 3rd party resolution, unless it happens to be true.

Larken Rose: Statist Contradictions
B1-66ER replied to JSDev's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Concerning the issue of private ownership of land, I beleive it's a fundamentally Western notion that if you improve upon it, you own it.(Homesteading) Of course the problem of conflict could arise in such situations and i'm surprised no one mentioned 3rd Party Arbitration which would certainly mete out any disputes in a manner befitting the NAP. -
I know this is an old topic but hopefully I can resurrect it. I absolutely concur, an interview/discussion or just Stefan's opinion on his work would be interesting. I've sent an email to operations to see if this could be possible.
