Mathematics is an abstraction that doesn't exist in the real world - Yet if we are interested in coming to the correct conclusion when performing an operation on numbers, we must use it to come to a reliable resultant. "Do Morals Exist" is an interesting question - like Pelafina said, they don't have Mass or Energy. so they are not a physical object. The very act of debating the topic shows a preference for believing truth over falsehood, Communicable language over indiscernible noise as well as a preference for having others live in line with truth over falsehood. So universal preferences exist - is that just a rebrand of morals? I think so - as morals are defined as "a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do." Which perfectly fits the bill for Universally Preferable Behaviors. What do you think Xiv?

Recently Stef did a show talking about, "If you have an interaction with a police officer- you must submit. or they will escalate the situation until you submit or until you are incapacitated or dead." This thought has been bouncing around my head with the resounding sound of truth. I'm a bit horrified that I haven't thought about it with such a clarity of thought before. Then -- while at work on lunch I stumble upon this... http://thefreethoughtproject.com/charges-cop-killed-19-year-old-girl-fleeing-party/ I thought I would share, hopefully to enlighten those around us. Do not run or try to fight back. All you can do is hope they don't hurt you too bad. -- Avoid at all costs. ~Kason

I think the argument put forth in the video is valid. I really need to arm myself. But - that would be illegal at the moment. Thank you so much for this post!

Yesterday in the call in show - there were a lot of comments on youtube saying that X fallacy was committed when you did Y. Y is not true because of Z (Empirical reason) and then someone responded that they were committing a "Fallacy Fallacy" and therefore it was false. I think that you could respond to the Fallacy Fallacy claim and call it a ... Fallacy Fallacy Fallacy and open up a mobius strip of "Fallacy" war. OR - my personal approach was to look at the first logic and determine the truth value based on the statement made. manipulation of language does not change the reality of things. I'm not very well spoken, so I might appeal to authority; However, The proof needs to be outside the realm of language. and in the world of Logical Consistency and Empirical Evidence. (Universally Preferable Behavior: a Rational Proof of Secular Ethics explains this why, far better than I hope to be able to.) If truth isn't determined via UPB. a Fallacy Fallacy Fallacy "War" could be waged indefinitely. Stalemating into the cold trenches of sophistry. (Slippery Slope, Appeal to emotion, BUT still true. Amiright?)

Personally, I am terrified of the police. I've had terrible interactions with them and I've never broken the law. Someone posted this video on Facebook and it just blows me away. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1452259305034363 I just saw this video on facebook and it makes me want to walk around armed. But if you fight back with an abusive cop it'll just make things worse for you. What can you do to survive an encounter with an abusive cop?? I can't imagine what would be happening if I was assaulted by them.

Howdy, I was in the chat, and we talked about music theory and some-such and there was an idea that there could be a "Freedom Band" of sorts. Someone comes up with an idea for a song. Individuals record each piece (likely listening to a "Roughed out" version of the song [midi or otherwise]) send them to a mixer - who produces the songs and finalizes them. Personally - I'm a huge fan of parody songs by Wierd Al, but would like to make non-comedic things along the lines of peaceful parenting. Universal principles. and the non-initiation of the use of force. Would this be an endeavor worth pursuing? is there support? I'd be happy to produce a majority of the stuff! (Some stuff I've cut on my own) https://soundcloud.com/kasonb (Some stuff I've produced with a friend of mine) https://soundcloud.com/generiz/segunda-work-in-progress https://soundcloud.com/generiz/penis-envy-rough-cut Post what you can do below! All the best, Kason What I can do: Personally In order of proficiency: Guitar Bass Mixing Keyboard Vocals Drums Arranging Cello (Not that great. Droning? yeah. Arrangements? Not bowed.)

From what I understand of BTC- It is another product that can act as a medium of exchange. (similar to fiat currency) Some of the benefits of a cryptocurrency would be Scarcity - A limited number can be produced, so your currency will gain value, rather than lose value, over time. Security - It's more profitable to do business honestly with bitcoins than to try to "Hack" the network to spoof a transaction. Security(b) - Your assets cannot be stolen by any people. Governments. Criminals. Anyone. Security© - You can do business anonymously Barriers to business - You can send 100% of the value of your currency across the globe. for free. almost instantly. Barriers to business(b) - there is no "custodial" (labor based) upkeep to manage your account. Via the blockchain Barriers to business© - You don't need to buy any currency to start doing business in it. Creating a wallet is free! Barriers to business(d) - Offering to accept bitcoin opens you up to an international marketplace that may not do business in your country of origin. Holding Value - All of those early adopters, assuming they want to maximize their profit, have a huge incentive to maximize the value of their current holdings in BTC. And would do anything to add to the feature set of BTC. In comparison to current currencies... I believe that I heard a podcast on the internet somewhere referring to something along these lines: Fungibility (the ability to substitute one unit of currency for another without a loss in value) every 1 BTC is worth 1 BTC. Very different than if we were using a barter system. 1 horse ≠ 1 horse. Portability you could carry all 21,000,000 BTC on your phone, laptop, or even just memorize the keys. Try carrying all of the dollars in circulation. Divisibility BTC can be divided to .00000001 BTC -- it loses it's value at a linear rate rather than a quasi exponential rate like a diamond. Hopefully that answers some of your questions as to "Why Bitcoin" for more information check out these great videos: These are what got me interested in bitcoin as an intrigue -- which led me to FDRpodcasts -- Which is why I am here now! If person A makes a deal with Person B on a voluntary basis, They are by definition: both better off. If rich person A wants to live in his own private Villa and developer B want's to sell him it. More power to them. It's only whenever Sam C comes in and Tells both A and B to provide shelter to his buddy Joe D - and if he doesn't, he'll Raze his villa to the ground. oh and cage B in a prison where he's likely to be tormented and assaulted. OH and if B tries to resist Sam C's virtuous judgement. He will shoot him down.

"Coming out" as an atheist. //* Personal Rant *//
Kason replied to Kason's topic in Atheism and Religion
Thank you all for the feedback. I really appreciate the empathy and feel that I'm not as alone. Or perhaps less alone than ever. since I'm not being pinned down via group think; instead, able to express my thoughts and receive rational criticisms. I love the quote "Meet people where you go" and I took that to heart. I was recently on several different film sets shooting some interviews and made a new friend there, just from a chat between takes! I've been making progress in my career to move elsewhere, with a more predictable schedule, so I can aid in the cause of freedom. (I'd like to conduct the milgram experiment and throw in some voluntary principles about education at the end based on the results. ) All the best to all of you,Kason -
Personal Economic Moral Questions
Kason replied to Kason's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Right, I've been processing alternatives. Literally, any labor that you preform and get money for will help the state, by them taking a bite out of your earnings through the theft of "taxes" even if I were to start an FDR knockoff and solely live on the donations of an audience, I would still be taxed for their donations. It is just boggling my mind. But I really appreciate both of your feedback. I am, for the moment, feeling less anxiety about working // consuming a product. All the best, Kason -
Hello everyone. This is mostly just a rant on my experience involving acting on the logic of UPB. It's not really a question or even have any direction. I just haven't really shared myself on the forum and spend lots of time creeping on others and would like to just post a bit about myself out there. I was challenged by Stef's audiobook "Against The Gods" and "UPB: A rational proof of secular ethics" to the point of realizing that my belief in Christianity was mislead at best, and downright abusive and manipulated via others at worst. I had been investigating the logical evidences of God's existence for the past 6 months. (The case for christ, creator, mere Christianity, etc.) and my Fiance (We dated for 5 years and I finally felt financially and spiritually ready to marry her..) was aware of my investigation. Throughout the engagement. I was chastised for "Not believing in truth, love, and morality" and having a hard heart. Another phrase used was "Refusing to see the truth" After hearing Stefan's call with a young man from Germany in "Lizard Brain with Post-Monkey Beta Expansion Pack" (I think that was the show title) -- I find it very disheartening that the "openness" that I was not "feeling" towards God was not granted to my evidences towards a rational and objective universe. We ended the engagement and haven't spoken much. My social network has quickly shrunk from 700+ to about 4 people that I could call up if I really needed something. I was mostly friends with those from my church. (Southerners are a pretty religious bunch) And so now. I'm wondering -- where do people make friends and meet new people? -School is not an option - I opted to go straight to the work force. -The workplace that I work at has people that are on average 15+ years older than me. (I'm the youngest crew member working in TV in the area that I know of) -Bars and Clubs (when I come of age to not get shot or caged for trying) seem to be an illogical place to meet people that subscribe to the NAP or are really interested in anything more than the hedonism of the moment. (not my gig) I think the only place in the universe left to discover rational and objective human beings is the FDR Forums. So... Hello everyone! I hope I can be accepted into your community! I'm happy to chat about religion -- philosophy -- or about how to shoot and edit videos or create music! All the best,Kason

Hello all, I've been working for ABC for the past year now. and have enjoyed shooting and editing at this level. However, since I've started listening to FDR and by extension, ran through the rational principles involving the NAP and the inherit evil of state power....Shooting videos with politicians now causes me a massive amount of anxiety and fear. I am tempted to just have a discussion with them involving "Do you advocate pointing a gun at me yourself to accomplish the task at hand?" which would result in my termination and a bunch of nasty snarky comments. I also am now aware that 70%+ of our content is state driven (Police officers. border "crises" other government shenanigans) I have been working more freelance video work and the more I work - the more I realize it is nearly impossible to work for something that isn't tied to state power (Corporations, or organizations directly funded or benefited by the state) How can one live in a state and not have to squelch their conscience due to lots of the economic activity that they participate in directly contributing to the violence of the state? (Purchasing food from a store sends 8%+ to the local government around here!) I can't seem to reconcile living with integrity about the NAP and existing in society as it is. :/ Your feedbacks would be most appreciated! All the best, Kason

Ending relationships with statists and the religious
Kason replied to Amelius's topic in Self Knowledge
Amelius, I am in the same boat. I'm debating the existence of God with several pastors of local churches right now with my Fiance hanging in the balance. I've recently de-converted from Christianity due to listening to some of Stef's broadcasts (In particular, "Against the Gods" and "UPB" audiobooks) My Fiance, won't marry an non-believer. So I'm trying to help her see the light. Or I have to break this relationship. The anxiety that I have felt has been crippling. Destroying me at work and at home. But, I look to the future, Where I may have a wife who raises kids with me in a non-violent, non-domineering manner. And realize that whatever the costs now, I will have a far greater life in the future. Even if the remained of this month, year, or longer is pretty low. All the best, Kason -
How you "came out" as an atheist to religious family.
Kason replied to annadios's topic in Atheism and Religion
Annadios, I just wanted to thank you for starting this thread. I know it's kind of old, but I just joined the boards this week and have been trying to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Coming out to my devoutly religious fiance. I don't know what's going to happen. I assume there may be some serious tension. or termination. But I at least know that I'm not alone in this feat. And for that, I thank you and every response on the thread. All the best,Kason
