I am curious why you might be interested in someone who would consciously use initiate force against others? Isn't that unempathetic and largely disturbing?

I like the idea of building a school which incorporates, tech, innovation, creativity, parenting, etc. for young children. However, as I read more of your comments I have absolutely no idea what the business model is, how it will sustain itself and be profitable in the future. Furthermore, its actually possible that paying a 5 year olds to learn would be very destructive. Rather than developing an ambition and intrisic desire and passion to learn and create, they will basically just seek the financial reward, lose a sense of value and have very little understanding of business, entrepreneurship and how to create and obtain capital -- because they spent 15 years getting paid not to work. Entrepreneurs are people who are incredibly ambitious and motivated -- to the point of feeling like they want to conquer the world and beat all competition without any second thought. I can't wrap my head around how paying these children would help them develop this, nor the desire to be creative enough to build something incredlble and generate millions. Where are they getting their understanding of capitalism and business? This does not add up to me. I think the ultimate school will have 3D printers, drones, electronics for children to tinker with, coding stations, virtual reality to watch rocket ships go to mars, older computers to demonstrate how things were not always this advanced and complex -- as well as coloring stations, writing, philosophy, etc. The child would choose what they would like to learn and pursue that day. Paying a child, again, seems completely backwards. If a child was learning tremendously and developing the skills and ambition to be a successful entrepreneur, how would paying them facilitate that? I don't why it seems assumed to be good for the child. Additionally, I have no idea how the business would grow and be profitable if it were paying students to participate. I don't know where you are generating your capital to even exist right now...? To be honest, I am curious to learn more as I literally don't understand a single thing about your business / school. I simply hope you don't have an Underpants Gnomes Profit Plan: I apologize if I came across as insensitive or harsh. I am actually quite curious but I try to reread your posts, I find myself with less and less of any kind of understanding. I look forward to your reply !

Yeah haha. And yes, its mainly to learn and to support the network. However, power is included in rent so maybe my 2USD per month will go way up Oh nice. You have anywhere I can check some of your stuff out? What two or three currencies do you think will end up being the used the most ? You can buy from a legit dealer -- or coins check for the stamp marks and everything. However, I strongly recommend Bitcoin over silver. Bitcoin (and other cryptocurrencies -- or digital assets) are still in their infancy. With over 1 billion dollars of capital invested into Bitcoin thus far, it is a deflationary "currency" of the future. Regardless of whether its Bitcoin, P2P cryptocurrencies will be the future -- it cannot be stopped. As applications continue to make it easier for the average person and business to use, the price will sky rocket. It is basically like getting into the internet in the early 90s. People in undeveloped countries who have never had access to a bank are now able to transact, trade goods and services, etc. Regardless of whether you get silver vs crypto (I recommend both -- but Bitcoin first), get yourself informed. Be cynical (towards me and others on this forum), but do your own research and don't invest in either one until you confidently understand and know why you are purchasing. Good luck my friend.

An ASIC miner attached to the raspberry pi. Its the same chip used in the Antminer S5. Its gets 8 - 16 GH/s. Not using the Raspberry Pi GPU lol, that would be pretty insane

Taking a five minute walk every 40 or so minutes eliminates the damage caused my sitting. Sitting down and messing with electronics does not cause people to become traumatized and sick lol. If it weren't for these people you wouldn't even have the opportunity to listen to Stef, nor would you be able to express yourself the way you are, probably leading to you (and others) being a lot worse off they you are now.

Check out asym.co -- its a project Max Levchin helped start. Basically it uses the awesomeness of science and technology to help you read more effectively online. It rewrites the script and adjusts spacing. I have been using it for a couple weeks and have found it to been noticeably helpful. Take care !

The goal is to at the very least set up a small raspberry pi rig. I am interested more in the learning, than I am to make money in a dozen years. I do understand that there are drawbacks, power costs, etc. I didn't just wake up one morning and decide to mine Bitcoin. I have a fairly strong understanding of what my goals are, what bitcoin is and where its value and potential lies. I apologize if it wasn't clear up front. This is mainly a hobby and learning pursuit (instead of playing video games I guess you could say : ) although I do additionally think that the net gain for growing the Bitcoin ecosystem and my financial payoff in a number of years will far out way the costs. I'd also love to immerse myself far more than I currently am, understand and get experience mining, work on a project with Raspberry Pi; and like most things related to tech -- start with a goal and interest, try to find people who share your passion, and do what you gotta do to get there. For what its worth, I'm not sure how helpful it is to tell me I am "wasting my time with Bitcoin", nor whether junk silver is a better investment.... That's sort of like telling someone who is working on a startup or seeking a new learning experience, "Don't waste your time on this project. If you have money to spend, work on something else. Your project will ultimately fail." Its not particularly helpful... Either I haven't researched and don't realize that there are many other investments I can make with my time and resources -- and thus I am probably too incompetent to pull this off -- or I have researched and telling me not to waste my time and buy junk silver won't provide me with any new information. Hey Fdr ! Bitcoin is something that has been of interest to me for a long time. Though, I have not invested a huge amount, I am under the impression Bitcoin will eventually go way up to the thousands. This is based on my understanding of the technology, the immense benefit it will provide -- particularly to people in poorer and 'undeveloped' nations, and of course for the common individual looking for a secure, P2P means of transacting. I have done a little bit of research, and I think my best option (and the greatest learning experience and fun) would be undoubtedly to invest in a Bitcoin mining rig. I am determined to do so, I am in the process of gaining more information and getting everything else in order. I am wondering if there are any philosophical Bitcoin miners out here? Hello, I would like to reach out to the creative, and innovative technologists and entrepreneurs for some potential advice. I have recently started learning Python and Cryptography full time, with the ultimate goal of innovating and perhaps moving to Silicon Valley. There are many reasons why I am determined to make it out to Silicon Valley, but essentially it comes down to an immense desire to work on interesting projects that are truly innovative (going from Zero to One as Peter Thiel puts it) with intelligent and interesting people. Silicon Valley seems to have an overwhelming amount of individuals who are incredibly intelligent, motivated, creative and philosophical thinkers (as well as interested in technology). Projects that interest me are ones like working with AI, working with cryptography and cryptocurrencies, implementing blockchain technologies into creative projects, and on the other side, building a school which implements the latest research in self directed learning and integrating technology, creativity and community as a core part of it -- perhaps even rendering college obsolete. I don't necessarily need to work on all of these things, but regardless, I am completely determined and persistent in achieving the goals I do set for myself and working on "crazy" projects that will fundamentally improve the lives of future generations and presently in the world. I would very much like to work in an early stage startup, get 'grind' experience, be on the brink of new innovative technologies and improve my skills and knowledge in tech, marketing and business. I have started and run my own businesses in the past (though not particularly tech related), and I feel as though I won't particularly feel satisfied (with my career at least) until I am either working on something incredible like going to mars (and what the future of that would entail), or running my own tech company which aims to do something 'crazy' like replacing governments with AI or making Bitcoin as easy to use for any individual as a payment mechanism as anything. As a caveat, I do know ; "I want to be an entrepreneur" is an extremely broad goal. I am an actionable individual, so my first step in becoming a tech entrepreneur is gaining technological and engineering knowledge, skills and experience in a startup environment. I also realize I don't necessarily need startup experience, but it seems like a wise a step and progression. I have a diversity of knowledge and experience in everything from cryptography and hacking, to computer hardware, virtualization and bitcoin. In recent times, I have found myself fixing the odd person's computers, integrating bitcoin into businesses, etc. All fun, but not exactly my long term plan or goal. Beyond being a tech entrepreneur, I would like to live in a place, as I said, in which I am surrounded by intelligence, creativity and innovative ways of thinking. I feel like based upon my values and long term goals, the actionable goals are this: Gain highly employable technological skills (Python, C, Cryptography, Security, Git, Linux, 'Bitcoin') Work in a startup. Continue to reach out and hopefully find a mentor or coach -- someone I can trust, someone who is passionate and someone who has experience and knowledge of new technologies and forward thinking. I just saw this post and I very much appreciate you making it. This is something I have wondered myself as well. I have all of the symptoms you listed. I've wondered of many of the pursuits in my life as well as the types of conversations I have with people is because I fundamentally lack in these particular areas. Its also interesting because I read that people with Aspergers is very heavily populated in Silicon valley. This is a place where some of the greatest, most creative and innovate minds are doing some of the most amazing work. It really speaks to society, in which people can't really fit in all of their lives -- until they meet other people who innovate, intelligent, philosophical individuals. Hello Team ! Yesterday marked the first meet up for a group of highly motivated, intelligent self directed learners. It was a great pleasure to chat with everyone who was able to make it ! In our first meet up, beyond introducing ourselves and sharing some of our brief goals and pursuits; we had an interesting discussion about the value of community, Bitcoin, and shared some of our thoughts on how to maximize our potential in the self-directed learning process. There seemed to be the common theme of discovering, knowing and reminding ourselves of what our purpose is in our pursuit. Additionally, creating deadlines was equally as important to track progress, keep ourselves accountable and reap the benefits of extra motivation by seeing and experiencing tangible results. We also discussed how to approach future meetings, how we can be of benefit to each other, maximize the potential of the group, and enjoy future conversations together. One idea was to integrate the "mastermind" philosophy. We decided it would be great if everyone interested, would try to come up with, and share your answers to these essential questions: What is one particular goal that you would like to work towards? Why this goal is important to you? Give yourself a deadline or time frame in which you will have accomplished something tangible and meaningful in this endeavor. What did you do throughout the week to pursue your goal? Lastly, what are some problems you consistently face that might benefit from another critical mind's perspective? These mental exercises should not be seen as "homework". If you feel these expectations are too high, that is fine. Start with what you feel comfortable with. We are a group of intelligent, motivated and empathetic individuals; the goal is not to cause anxiety, but rather assist each other in the process of pursuing and achieving that which we care about. What are your goals in running this business and what is your purpose in doing so? My personal thought is this: "small" businesses are pretty much non existent. Most people say "small business", to avoid the reality that they are unsuccessful and can't grow. Either you are in "start-up" mode (growing), you are successful (expanding), or you are going out of business ('decaying'). Business is never stagnant and as such, if you are not growing, it will only be a matter of time until you run out of capital. There are a few caveats, but this would certainly be the case in the food industry. I do think this is important, because if you plan to stay small; you will. Small means less capital and much more grinding. If you aren't the best in your city, or the country, or you aren't known for being either "new" or the greatest in something, you will inevitably go out of business. This could take 5 or 10 years, but if customers don't appreciate your goods or services, they will inevitably move on. In any case, I think the single best business book an individual can read is Zero to One by Peter Thiel. The Alliance by Reid Hoffman (though I have not read it yet) is supposed to be an excellent book for managers. At the end of the day, differentiate yourself and your product, have a great product, invest in marketing, definitely have a professional looking website and be prepared to put in long hours, especially at the beginning. Running a business is not easy -- and I don't mean to be disrespectful: but especially not in the food industry. Again, the issue with "small business" is that if you are 100% determined to be known for having the best product, there are others who are and at least seem to care more. I hope this did not come across as insensitive; I think at the end of the day, if you going to be entrepreneur, you must be willing to put all you've got into it -- especially for the first few months minimum. I am a fan of people like Peter Thiel, Chamath Palihatiya, Marc Andreesen, Reid Hoffman, Elon Musk, and the many others in Silicon Valley (or not) who are innovating. I am particularly passionate and interested in bitcoin, the technology behind it and the incredible impact it will have on the internet, communication, and on people in poor, heavily socialized countries to the United States. I am confident it is a game changer. I am currently getting a few farmers at the local market to understand, accept and adopt bitcoin securely. This is something I am currently doing for free, simply to grow the bitcoin ecosystem and to get all of the (libertarian) farmers on board. I think a group it is a wonderful idea to get creative philosophers together and share these things. It might even be fun to work remotely with each other on a project or topic of interest. You made a particularly interesting point about "seasoned thinkers". I feel like that point itself could be unpacked in many different ways. Additionally, I agree 100%, I think one of the many benefits of self learning is that when you are engaged, intrinsically motivated and invested, you will inevitably retain far more information. Certainly this can happen in college classrooms, but adding the pressure and self discipline of self-learning would in my mind reinforce whatever motivation was behind the individual in the first place.
