Good point. Depends what your comparing the ants to. If your comparing the ants to humans you would say they had little emotional intelligence. If you compared ants to the emotional intelligence seen in artificial intelligence/ computers/ robots you would say ants have sophisticated emotional intelligence. Interesting notion regarding what would happen if black Africans somehow took over what is today the US landmass and inherited it. I kind of can't help but think Haiti is already an example of a 'new world' country that comes as close as possible to such a scenario and gives a lot of insight into what would happen. But to be honest this argument is already over, when you look at the correlation between non-whites and failed states. The proof speaks for it'self. Even the non-white countries that are developed today, such as South Korea and Japan, are really only that way due to heavy white influence during their occupations by western powers. It also depends on what you define as success. If you think material things equate to success then you would say the west was successful. But our over emphasis on the economy at the determent to our citizens, who slave away in their work cubicles every day to go home and watch the idiot box on which we are told our ethnic and social identity as we know it is eroding in our lifetimes for the sake of big business via multiculturalism; leaving us with a feeling of all just being powerless individuals in our own society. Yet if you think non-material things equate to success then you would say the developing countries were a success with their ethnically homogeneous society that doesn't leave your life being defined by work and the dollar; and which leaves you feeling an empowered part of a meaningful community that embodies your racial history and accompanying cultural identity. What frustrates me about ethnic minorities whinging about their lot in life in the west. Unlike the people in the west, minorities have their parent cultures to go back to if they don't like it here.

I would dispute that. Have you ever isolated an ant and observed it's behavior? It becomes panicked and clearly shows negative affects of being isolated from other ants. Whether or not this depressed behavior is the result of an innate emotional component I don't know....I like to hold onto the idea that biological intelligence is coupled with emotions of some sort although as you say this may probably not be the case for all biological intelligence. But it's a sobering thought to think sophisticated animals such as ants could be considered void of emotion. I have owned 'social robots' in the past and understand what void of emotion is. To me having no emotions implies you react to inputs without showing 'excitement', 'aggression', 'fear' things which to me all ants demonstrate and show they do experience something similar to what we would describe as emotions in my opinion. It would be interesting to study this and find out. When observing workers with their Queen, after watching them move the Queen to a new chamber, you notice the workers already in the chamber become visibly excited, whether this is emotion or not I don't know. But I like to think it is. Also notice these two Queens jostling for hierarchy within the colony. Would you say the aggression they were demonstrating towards one another was an emotion or not? If the definition of emotion is 'a strong feeling deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others' then I would conclude the Queen ants reacting to one another like this show ants are not just running on auto pilot and there is something else innate there. Just my two cents.

You keep using loaded language that implies wrongness when I am trying to argue that this behavior might not be wrong. Your dealing with something that has no fixed answer. As I said in another post I have never hit a child in my life. I don't know why now I am being falsely accused like this by someone whom I daresay has never spent much time around children. I agree smacking is not ideal in many situations. But I also think what is not ideal are children who can't confide in their own parents because the parents are always criticizing them and verbally yelling at them as a form of discipline. So many 'peaceful parents' I come across don't seem to realize it is not acceptable to talk to your child in a negative harsh tone and degrading manner- which I find the majority of them I have come into contact do. The first I heard of her was in the first Hunger Games movie and then saw her on the red carpet in which she was hilarious and seemed so down to earth and normal. I stopped following Lawrence after the Joan Rivers incident and the nude photo scandal. Wish I could write such dribble and have it classed as an essay.
