So many of us are thinking about the election and something I always had a fishy feeling about, the Electoral College, this time around struck a bell in me that led to some surprises in how it actually works. CGP Grey gives a video about how it works and follows up with the recent video. CGP Grey talks about an anti-republic measure that while yet unused in the US could in fact alter election's outcomes in December. Given the outrage riots in the left, succession threats in the west coast, the (laughable) declarations of "revolutionaries" among celebrities, and most importantly the ongoing resistance to anti-globalism that still encumbers votes such as the Brexit the ability for the electors of the electoral college to disregard the primary election and vote as they choose in December is something I do not underestimate. tell me what you think, certainly there is a need to review the election system for an abundance of reasons

[Central] - Climate Change / Global Warming topic
HedgeWizard replied to Torero's topic in Science & Technology
I made a new thread for this, but maybe it goes better here. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2015EA000154/epdf Regarding contrarian data on the climate's equilibrium sensitivity in models commonly used- 16 replies

Thought I would post this here; http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2015EA000154/epdf New publication regarding questioning the largely proposed sensitivity of the climate's equilibrium. Thought it would be good sauce for those who can parse it. Maybe a good guy to bring on the show in between the immigration blitzes.

I would like to see a redo of the debate with Jan Helfeld. Stefan did one 6 years ago but its horrible to try to listen to Jan's audio. I told Jan this over the past few days and he is happy to do the debate again. The original debate was minarchism versus anarchism, but i think it is an especially relevant topic to do again. The reason it jogged my interest to bring it up with Jan is because he recently followed up with Jeffery Tucker who like many other anarchists I know who dodge or really don't have a clear strategy as to how they would implement a society organized in an anarchic fashion. A point which Jan brings up frequently, and Stefan being one of the anarchists that has more substantial ideas than the typical nebulous or politically safe responses. Besides this Jan rigidly adheres to the Socratic method, and paired with Stefan I see it will be an especially constructive and poignant debate. Personally I think there have been very relevant recent advents to an anarchist versus minarchist debate such as the Trump bull-in-the-china-shop-of-contemporary-politics phenom possibly giving us the opportunity further unwind the state and the ability to do smart money contracts with cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and/or friends possibly bringing us closer to not needing government/insurance/defense agency dispute resolution by shifting the implicit trust over to a benevolent algorithm without predatory human tendencies.

There are a couple of ways of handling the situation depending on your proposed length of stay. However, working visas are often only accepted if you have a college degree. For the most part visas are fairly easy for people from English speaking nations. I encourage you to get into contact with me so we can see what is right for your specific circumstances. Things that will effect our methods include your education background, criminal records, nationality, and medical conditions that may cause insurance issues.

I thought James Corbett's initial coverage was fairly objective https://www.corbettreport.com/?p=18320 let's hope someone leaks the leak and we see more juicy folks involved. I am largely convinced this is not a gov agency's intentional leak though there is no lack for wanting to aim any bottled lightning therein.

I think it is false to say that the leaks put forth by Snowden and others have not caused some tangible change in the surveillance activity. At least generally on the fringe people are taking more personal responsibility nowadays when embracing the Internet's various mediums and that there is a new wave of services that are offering solutions to privacy such as new apps like end to end encrypted Telegram, tech companies realizing their own best interest and resisting implementing backdoors, as well as protocols such as the bitcoin network being continually adopted along with its supplementary apps. Though you are right in some aspects as it is not to say the watchers have shown any less tenacity when it comes to spying. For the Panama Papers it is not an otherwise well renowned source that is leaking the information like wikileaks, but it has yet to be more formally determined what the nature of the leaks are. We should be able to make better sense of all of it as time goes on, just like the other leaks. I think many journalists and individuals are well aware of the suspicious nature of a closed source leak

This tweet refers to the concern about the lack of US individuals; https://twitter.com/mathewi/status/716771686482202625 Not directly mentioned by parties implicitly involved in regards to the Panama papers being leaked intentionally by govs, but these are emails leaked to and from Jake Sullivan, a top Clinton advisor; http://imgbox.com/M62jssbi http://imgbox.com/EYGvlSq6 in similar news, over 49 million Turkish citizens have just had their personal data leaked National Identifier (TC Kimlik No) First Name Last Name Mother's First Name Father's First Name Gender City of Birth Date of Birth ID Registration City and District Full Address

Starting this thread to discuss the Panama Papers. As described by Edward Snowden it is the largest leak in history of data journalism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Papers http://panamapapers.sueddeutsche.de/en/

Current direction of Bitcoin
HedgeWizard replied to HedgeWizard's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Well centralization of wealth is not so much an issue in my opinion when it comes to a deflationary currency. Consider that as price appreciates people are more inclined to spend their bitcoin and even the largest savers will be incentivized to release their coins back into the system, it is a fact that their holding large sums increases this deflationary pressure by taking coins off the market. Secondly although there are many elements of those people being speculators which in itself is not bad as a free market price discovery mechanism those people are savers and have the right to save as much money as they see fit. As far as an internet connection being an issue, having traveled to many 3rd world countries I myself have seen the rapid adoption of mobile devices versus desktop computing which means it is less necessary, increasingly so, that people absolutely need to own their own internet connection. There are smartphones in india for as low as 20 dollars. Though they are government subsidized and still relatively expensive to a large number of people, I am confident the price barriers will lower as time goes on. Of course as a merchant accepting bitcoin you likely need a connection during working hours to be secure in accepting your payments. On the other hand look at initiatives such as Satoricoin (satoricoin.jp) where they are specializing in low denomination bitcoin hardwallets in the form of poker chip like coins. I think it is very important to bring a valid form of bitcoin into the tangible world. I think the dilemmas you suggest are again "mass user adoption" dilemmas and not the most crucial in regards to making sure bitcoin is a unfettered currency and an even playing ground for all participants -
I am concerned as are other anarchists for the current direction of Bitcoin. In my opinion bitcoin has been under the mindset of mainstream adoption at all costs. This is not to say I support core over classic or unlimited as core has its own agents working towards these goals, and I would like to leave the opinions on these flavors of bitcoin out of this discussion as they will inevitably become technical discussions. I would like to rally support for opensource projects such as darkwallet and openbazaar in attempt to reclaim bitcoin. Projects that support the users specifically and not on ramps for banking and financial institutions to integrate into their legacy service. I would also like to see Stefan talk with someone on the show as it reaches more people than this thread might. The fight for bitcoin is ongoing. The white lists cometh

these guys have a good show and have interesting commentary being well tuned to media professions. Chase Nunes is an anarchist but I don't think Chris is according to some of the things he says on occasion
-
I would like to see an updated discussion about bitcoin. I suggest a conversation with Cody Wilson and Amir Taaki as they embody a voluntarism and anarchism ideology in their active projects besides having an intimate relationship with the bitcoin ecosystem. Also they would likely be easy to get on the show. I make this suggestion after the brief video I watched here;

I don't doubt Bernie can't do much but lick those wounds. Stefan, or anyone for that matter, would likely be hard pressed to have Bernie concede anything out right, but the tactics used in the debate would hopefully be tailored for the viewers and not driving Bernie into the ground, though that's not to say the former prohibits the latter
