  1. Hey guys, I just wanted to share an article I read on Ars Technica. I thought it was a very interesting read, and thought that this would be a great piece for Stefan's "The Truth About" series. Maybe he can dig up some facts and data to help get this information out into the public to see just why Obama's plan is not only not going to work, but will have disastrous effects in the long term. Is there a proper way to submit suggestions for these videos? Thanks guys. I copy-pasted the original article for you guys to read, and here is the source: http://arstechnica.com/science/2016/01/dear-mr-president-please-stop-with-these-science-moonshots/ PROMOTED COMMENTS: I know that when it comes to software projects, adding more programmers later into development actually pushes the timetable back instead of ahead, so there's that. Not sure there's really a valid comparison between these 2 things but I'll offer it anyways. Jonathan doesn't explain this point, but part of the issue is that a LOT of science as currently done is done by trainees - grad students and postdocs. As a result, sudden boluses of funding lead to spikes of trainees that then starve 5-10 years later, either while trying to get an independent job or set up their own labs. So this is tremendously inefficient for little benefit -- you're spending resources on human capital you're never going to use.
