  1. You can read their summary here: https://protonmail.ch/pages/security_details.php This is actually something interesting to me because I've been working on writing an email client from scratch with both OpenPGP and S/MIME encryption in mind, but the one thing that that was always an unsolvable problem using the standard email encryption protocols was that header metadata cannot be encrypted. ProtonMail seems to solve that by being a web-based solution that doesn't really follow the standard email protocols. In order to interoperate with existing email clients, what they do is send the client a URL where they can read the encrypted message by decrypting it in their browser.
  2. I'm excited to talk about a pair of open-source Apps which have recently become available on Google Play (Android Market): TextSecure for Private SMS/MMS. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms and RedPhone, for Secure Calls. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.redphone Both of these are by a company called Whisper Systems and are recommended by security experts (including this security intermediate) and are incredibly easy to use. Let's get these Apps on the phones of those we would communicate with! And BTW, if you have an iPhone: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2531941/Even-worse-worst-nightmares-How-NSA-use-iPhone-spy-you.html
  3. i have been looking into Paul Rosenburg's (he was at some speaking engagement where stef went once time) program suite for encryption called "cryptohippie". I saw a writeup he did on dailyanarchist.com. It's expensive to purchase, but gives you a solid vpn with exit nodes in panama and other countries with more privacy protections. Your phone and web connections will be gibberish to your isp. Since he is an entrepreneur who has personal leanings toward the libertarian/anarchist movement, it seems he could be trusted ethically for selling the real deal. I haven't committed to buying it yet, but i am leaning that way. What do you guys think? ..about this company and whether their is an even better option.
