I'm very happy that gay couples are now free to the same tax benefits and pieces of paper as any hetero couple. It truly is great to see such a reduction in government control.
But the underlying problems have not been addressed, or even acknowledged.
The government just oppressed a large demographic of people for decades. It’s great that they are no longer doing that, but the very fact that they were given the privilege to do so is deeply concerning.
I wish this had been a wake up call.
Like other government initiatives, the underlying problems have not been solved.
The price of healthcare has not been lowered. People have not been educated about the virtues of donating money to people who need help paying for healthcare. Rather, money has been taken with force from one party and given to another.
It’s kind of like drinking in order to reduce anxiety. Yes, the anxiety goes away temporarily, but the cause of the anxiety has not been solved so, and the alcohol is not permanent, so it will keep coming back, and, in the case of healthcare, now we're even more dependent on government.
Again, it’s great that gays are now free to marry, but the fact that they weren’t always should be concerning.
