On the podcasts when a caller will not reproduce I have heard Stef say several times something along the lines of "6 millions years of evolution of your genes and it will stop with you" Is this a valid statement? As I understand it, we only pass along half of our genes to our kids, and the combinations are rearranged. Also there is nothing unique about our individual genetic material since those genes are carried by many other people. even if we carry a unique mutation that gets passed along to our kids, the fact that it occurred means that it is likely to happen on the same gene others carry. Its like we each are a unique book. but since when we reproduce we can only create a different unique book....we are not passing anything unique to us that a close relative can't pass along. say a sentence or two. The words get passed but their arrangement is likely to change and even re-occur on someone else. I see no net loss for the genes if an individual does not reproduce. thinking along the lines of Dawkins "the Selfish Gene" Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hello all you yummy pursuers of that which is noble and true, As I've discussed in a reply to the iOS FDR app thread, I definitely think that we should go the way the progress blows and try to ever-stretch further the white-comfortable wings of philosophy. I'm talking here of a potential audience of 81% * 2 billion = cca. 1.6 billion souls. Sweet mind-blowjobbing stuff, ain't it? Without further other comments, I want to say that I've started working on the Android version of the app. It's not yet public and I can't promise when it will get to that point, but if you're ever interested in giving me a hand with testing and feedback-ing the thing (maybe even programming it if you're up for a after-life challenge), just drop me a message. I will come later with more details. Here's some progress: Portrait Landscape ... and one from the joys of doing this. Live long and prosper :

This is going to sound like an advertisement, but I'm excited! I've been wanting this for years: a way to listen to Freedomain Radio YouTube videos -- especially the ones that aren't made into podcasts -- on my phone while using other apps, or with my phone screen turned off. Now I've found a way -- with the Wiper app. Wiper is a messaging app sort of like Snapchat. It allows you to erase text messages, as well as make and erase voice calls. The most exciting feature, to me, though, is that it also allows you to listen to and share YouTube videos (and erase the shares). It could be a good way to share favorite FDR videos with another person. This is my new music player. It comes with YouTube music playlists. Best of all, you can use other apps and turn your phone's screen off and keep listening, a function that YouTube itself doesn't allow. It doesn't save your place, or download onto the phone for offline listening, like a podcast app would. But I can now save FDR YouTube videos in a favorites list, and listen to them like podcasts while doing other things. Before, if a video wasn't made into a podcast, most of the time I would skip it rather than watch the video. Now I have more options for listening. It's a small thing, but others here may appreciate it, too. (Wiper also recently added a Bitcoin wallet with a function that allows you to erase transactions. Of course, you can't erase them from the Blockchain, but supposedly you can erase them from your phone. The app isn't open source, so use at your own risk. The Bitcoin wallet also has some bugs, in my experience.)

Hi, all I just wanted to recommend a podcast for nutrition and exercise. Stefan and Freedomain radio has certainly changed my life and changed my entire mindset, but I know for myself I tend to live like my body is simply the robot that moves my brain. This guy, Shawn Stevenson, really breaks down nutrition in a holistic, scientific way; and puts it in terms that are easy to understand and highly motivating. Now, I have heard him say a couple things that are loopy/hippy (mentions of divinity, sacredness, etc), but those moments don't take away from his general approach of breaking things down scientifically.I think this podcast really advocates one of Stef's central messages: get yourself together mentally, emotionally, and physically, do it consistently and based on principles, then change the world. I think Shawn Stevenson's breakdown of wellness could play a big part in "being the change you want to see" for the philosophical person.A few good episodes I've listened to so far:Tips for better Sleep: http://theshawnstevensonmodel.com/21-cures-sleep-problem-pt1/ Food and genetics: http://theshawnstevensonmodel.com/how-food-impacts-your-genetics/ Tips for more energy: http://theshawnstevensonmodel.com/tips-more-energy/ Friend's and family's impact on health: http://theshawnstevensonmodel.com/influence-on-your-health/ fyi, this guy has a pretty strong "urban" accent... but don't let that deter you. (hopefully he can reach some of those communities...)Also, I don't know how open either side would be, but it would be cool if Stefan could do an interview with Shawn (or someone else knowledgeable about nutrition/exercise). I think full body wellness is something Stefan definitely finds important, so it would be cool to hear some more shows promoting that topic. I remember Stefan did a really random seeming interview with Elliott Hulse that ended up being completely inspiring. It would be awesome to see Stef hook up with another health/fitness expert again.

You may have noticed already, but if you select "Podcasts" from the FDR homepage, you are now directed to FDRPodcasts.com v1.0. It's a way of easily finding podcasts on all of the topics brought up here. It's got search, tags, sorting and lots of other features to help you find podcasts. There are a lot of gems in the archive that people new to the show are not likely aware of. Browse the lists! There are TON of podcasts to listen to. I brought this up as an idea to Stef a couple years ago, but it didn't work out for different reasons, and then Mike (MMD) and I talked about trying to make it work last year and so I started designing and putting some things together. Then JamesP and I talked and it turned out that exactly the things that was most worried about were things he was proficient in and it ended up being a really good match. So he ended up handling the server side details (and he did an awesome job of it) and I did the front end work. We got a TON of tags from work Adam Crowe did for a separate project which added a ton of value. Mike and I worked out how the design of the page should be, and so this is what we've got so far! There are plans to add more features, (e.g. timestamps), but probably the most important thing is content. There are probably some badly formatted podcast titles and/or incorrect podcast numbers and things like this, and also, we want to be able to have youtube links for every podcast that has one, timestamps, more tags, etc, and I'm currently working on making volunteering easier. I'll keep you posted! If you come across any bugs, feature requests, have any feedback at all, hate it, love it, let me know in this thread. A lot of the features and design decisions that I made originated as feedback from other people. Feedback makes things better! One known bug is that the yellow email button isn't popping up the modal with the form to send people podcasts by email (should be fixed shortly).

Stefan sometimes talks about the steadily increasing server bills due to increasing downloads of FDR podcasts. It's great that more and more podcasts are downloaded, but the donated money that pays the server bills might be used for other purposes if we reduce the load on the FDR servers. Here is a solution how we can reduce those bills. Torrent RSS Feeds to FDR Volumes · Volume 1 bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/volume_1/feed · Volume 2 bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/volume_2/feed · Volume 3 bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/volume_3/feed · Volume 4 bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/volume_4/feed · Volume 5 bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/volume_5/feed · Latest Podcasts bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/latest/feed The Easy Way to Listen and Share · Download and Install the open source Miro player available for Windows and Mac OSX. If you use the Miro website to download, you will encounter an installer that tries to install additional crapware. So just use the links provided in this bullet point. · After the installation go to "Sidebar" > "Add Podcast" and paste this URL bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/latest/feed · To start listening you just need to press "download" and then "play", · If you pause or switch to another podcast episode, the Miro player will remember the played position of your previous podcasts. · After you downloaded podcasts the Miro player will automatically upload your downloaded podcasts to other listeners. · The Miro player syncs with your Android and Kindle Fire devices. The Benefits · The FDR podcasts are stored decentralized on the listeners hard drives – a backup in case anything happens to the FDR servers. The decentralized system works quite similar to the Bitcoin network. · You get to give back to the community by letting your PC/Mac upload Podcasts to other listeners. · We help to reduce FDR’s server bills. The Disadvantages · You have to use a podcast software that supports BitTorrent, for example the Miro Player, but there are also other P2P players for Windows, Android, Mac and Linux. · You can not use your usual podcast player or site like iTunes, Stitcher or other Browser-based podcast services to download. After you downloaded a podcast, you can of course play it back with any MP3 compatible player. The Way to Listen and Share for Advanced Bittorrent Users · Use your preferred BitTorrent client to add the RSS Feed bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent/latest/feed · You can also find a complete list and add torrents individually on this website bitlove.org/freedomain_radio_torrent How It Works Have your heard of BitTorrent? The FDR podcasts are shared in a peer to peer BitTorrent network. The website Bitlove.org creates torrents out of podcasts, it creates torrent RSS feeds out of podcast feeds. The feeds that I link to contain hundreds of torrents, each torrent is a Podcast. The torrents are downloading fast since currently the regular FDR servers are part of the P2P network. Other FDR Torrents · Somebody uploaded all the podcasts up to show 2299 in 22 packages. Robert Rak summarized the torrents here https://board.freedomainradio.com/topic/39836-fdrpodcastscom-official-launch/?p=365010 (They are grouped by the hundreds. Package 3 thus includes podcast 300-399) · Somebody uploaded all the podcasts in 7 packages up to show 2728. You can look it up here thepiratebay.se/user/FDRURL. I waited up to an hour until these torrents started downloading. · One advantage of the Bitlove "Latest Podcasts Feed" is that it includes always the 250 most current podcasts.

So at work I'm allowed to listen to podcasts, and I've pretty much grinded through every episode of everything I'm subscribed to. I'll post below my subscriptions so you can get an idea of what I'm interested in, but basically anything that's somewhat entertaining and that'll make me think. I'd really appreciate other suggestions. Thanks! Freedomain Radio (of course) Hardcore History Common Sense The Thinking Atheist Stuff You Should Know
