  1. Disclaimer: I'm making this post out of intrigue, I wish no harm to the people mentioned in this post or to anyone affiliated with FDR. I assume that all this is probably a coincidence. I was web surfing and out of complete coincidence (seemingly not connected to FDR) stumbled upon these websites. Archive.org confirms these websites are older than the freedomain radio websites or podcasts or Stefan's personal blog. In fact morelife.org can be tracked as far back as 1998 when they were in early development, and selfsip.org - 2003. This symbol was first used no later than 2001. morelife.org selfsip.org https://twitter.com/paulwakfer https://twitter.com/KittyAntonik The Self-Sovereign Individual Project: A program to achieve freedom from government coercion for those who understand it, want it and are responsible enough to live it On the morelife website: "Cognitive therapy will not be effective for a person who merely reads written material or listens to a speaker describe the model of interaction between the listed five areas of life, because these are too passive. Instead, active participation on the part of the reader of books on the cognitive model or as a client/patient of a cognitive therapist is essential for progress toward increasing happiness." Paul Wakfer ("Kitty" on the left): Born on the 26th of February, 1938. Holds a Master of Arts in Applied Mathematics (MA, U of Toronto, 1960) Is a former computer consultant, teacher and entrepreneur (1973-1990) During Paul's post-graduate studies at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, at New York University (Washington Square) in 1961, he enrolled in an extra curricular course from The American School of Economics. It was while attending these lectures on freedom oriented economics (by such notables as Ludwig von Mises and Henry Hazlitt), that he overheard a conversation about The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, then read it and eventually everything associated with her. Since 1972 Paul has been an independent scholar in the philosophy of freedom reading widely and deeply from the works of the classical liberal thinkers and more contemporary libertarians writers. This has enabled Paul to progress from his original views of childhood that an oligarchy of the wisest should govern, to a full recognition that only the individual can judge what is in her/his own best interest and that an individual's goal of seeking to maximize his lifetime happiness will produce a complete and consistent set of rules of social order which will promote and allow this goal to be sought in a conflict-free manner by all rational individuals. Social Meta-Needs (SMN), published in 2004: Social Meta-Needs are those Environmental Attributes of and within Society, common to all individuals, which facilitate the highest possible attainment of Lifetime Happiness by each. The basis of Social Meta-Needs is to be found in the ethical egoism of the individual human, which implies that seeking to optimally increase his Lifetime Happiness by means of optimizing his Benefit/Harm Estimations and consequent Chosen Actions, must be his ultimate purpose. Social Meta-Needs are not ends in themselves, but rather the conditions and tools of Social InterRelationships - the Social means needed to be common to all individuals so that each individual can best attain his ends. A bit about Kitty: Kitty Antonik Wakfer (born April 6, 1945 and also known as Kitty and Katherine Antonik; formerly with last name Raastad and Antonik-Raastad; with other Internet Forum Usernames "Kitty" and "KittyA" and "KittyAW") formerly practiced as a registered nurse and later as a mechanical engineer; she has been an avid reader of science fact and fiction since her youth. As a nurse for 13 years, Kitty worked in the areas of emergency care, obstetrical, pre- and post-surgical, geriatric, psychiatric, and home-health finding the most satisfaction in the latter which allowed her to utilize her strong patient advocate skills. She returned to university level studies (moving to engineering from nursing) and after graduation from the University of Arizona (BSME 1983) she was employed at the then Motorola Government Electronics Group (sold to General Dynamics after her departure). Kitty spent more than 16 years in the mechanical design of space-borne electronic hardware, most notably the GPS Block IIR and Block IIF Crosslink Data Transponders. In this role she was responsible for the mechanical integrity of the units, specifically their performance after launch and deployment. In conjunction with the various electronic engineers and designers, Kitty's responsibilities included the design of the numerous printed circuit boards, their manufacture by outside vendors, and interfacing with in-house assembly services. In addition she was responsible for various analyses, customer presentations, vendor reviews, mechanical testing, and overseeing a team of project mechanical designers. Kitty's pro-freedom philosophy had its earliest formal introduction with the reading of Ayn Rand's Anthem at age 16, the same year that Paul was reading The Fountainhead for the first time. Over the years she read all the works of Rand and many of those of Ludwig von Mises, Henry Hazlitt, Milton Friedman, Paul Johnson, Thomas Sowell and other 20th century writers on economic and personal actions. She has more recently enlarged her knowledge of the moral basis of human interactions by reading many of the writings of earlier writers such as Henry David Thoreau, Lysander Spooner, Jeremy Bentham, Herbert Spencer, and others whose writings either served as philosophical foundations for the US founding fathers or who wrote critiques in the years following the federalization of the US government.
  2. My ex and I have been divorced since April of 16 and we are still making adjustments to the agreement. Kind of frustrating because at this point she is talking about going 50/50 custody which eliminates child support. Sounds great except when you take into account we spent the last year and a half duking it out in court and costing me thousands in lawyer fees and child support along the way. After the kids being kicked out of three day cares in less than as many years I finally said enough and asked her to let me have them and put them in day care under my supervision and parenting and see if there is a change. Going on a month with not even close to the incidents that went on at daycare under her..."care". This scenario has me wondering if kids are actually ADD/ADHD or just under structured at home and just put on meds because of a lack of the parent/s desire to control their kids as opposed to them having to deal with uncontrollable kids. They are talking about putting my kids on meds and I am like well if they aren't acting like that with me than it is consistent behavior thus it must be something external to the kids that is the problem. Their mom continually lies during the sessions and I am about to put a stop to them altogether because I feel like it is a waste of time for me and the kids. Hopefully we will make it to court to file for custody of them full time soon and be done with her insanity altogether. Anyone else successfully get custody of their kids? Or even remotely going through this hell storm that I am? would love to discuss
  3. Fellow peaceful parents, I have double trouble. My wife gave birth to twins last summer. I am very tired, stressed, and I have gotten extremely anxious on a few occasions. I do not want this to affect my children in a negative way. Problem: My son wakes up every 3 hours... on a good night. My daughter wakes up once, feeds, and goes back to bed. We've been lucky on that front I suppose. But by 2am my nerves are shot. I've had to wake up Mom on several occasions so I can step away for a little while. Description: On a bad night, like last night, he wakes up 5-6 times, wakes up his sister at least once, and wants to be held while he sleeps. If we put him down, he wakes up and cries. If you make the wrong move (offer him a bottle when he doesn't want it, check his diaper, etc.) he cries. He also often simply refuses to go back to sleep, for hours at a time. I have some sympathy for him, because he has pretty bad acid reflux, and subsequently is a prolific spitter upper. Often when he wakes up I can hear him juggling fluid in his esophagus. That's usually when he refuses to go back to sleep. Being horizontal seems to aggravate the reflux problem. So that's understandable, if not exhausting. But at other times he does not suffer from reflux, and simply wants to be held. I don't know how he functions with so little sleep. Granted, his dad can go 4 - 5 days straight on only 4-5 hours a night, but after months of this and the crying and trial and error (mostly error) my nerves are suffering. I'm a zombie at work. Mom and I are strong advocates for attachment parenting. But most babies are singles. That is to say, they aren't competing for attention. The challenge we face is forming strong attachments for both of them. Possible Solutions: There are a few schools of thought on how to handle this problem. Give the baby what they want, regardless of your own needs (this is starting to wear me down) Soothe the baby but don't pick them up, try that twice, and if it doesn't work, see step 3; "Let them cry it out" Since some of you will probably ask: Doctor doesn't have anything to offer except a ranitidine prescription. It lessens the problem but is in no way a cure. I'm not a fan of this medication buy we if we don't use it, it's a guarantee that we will not be sleeping He was breastfed almost exclusively, but mostly drinks formula now (Mom doesn't produce enough for two, and he refuses to breastfeed unless from a bottle at this point) The acid reflux was a problem while breast feeding, so that is not a factor per se He eats "solid" food (rice cereal, fruit, veggies) He shares a giant crib with his sister, who usually tries to sleep through these frequent episodes he (insists) sleeps on his stomach He does not have any other problems we know of, very healthy baby, developmentally on schedule and in some ways ahead Mom is home all day, every day, we both have strong bonds with the babies They were cesarian delivery (long story) And for some reason we get asked this often: They are not twins because of in vitro fertilization.
