Something I thought about that seems like it would make sense:

Could fascinations and captivations you have in your waking life be analyzed for the same kind of symbols that dreams are?

A personal example of mine would be a fascination with the Slenderman mythos.

On a side note, I did have a rather interesting dream recently I'd like some feedback on.

In it, I am reading a furry comic involving two males having sex with a child, with disgust and horror as my own feelings towards it.

As some background, tendencies towards pedophilia are a part of me that I am trying to undo, and I think I am making some progress (I have left my parents despite becoming homeless to do so), so the repulsion to it is understandable, but I'm not sure about the other parts. Why furry? Why a comic? Why am I reading it? etc.

Another I had a while ago that is still fairly fresh in my mind:

I'm at a house with my parents, which in retrospect does not look familiar but I know it was thier house. I am very kind and polite with them (not the case IRL), and I go out to get an ICEE. The landscape is pretty barren, and the sky is red with purple streaks. I walk quite a distance away, until I get to the ICEE machine which is standing in an empty desert lot, with nothing else around it (you would think that it would be in a gas station or something). When I get close to it, I realize it's cherry flavored, and since I wanted coke flavor, I turn back to head home.

In the last part of the dream, I'm at an office desk on a moving train, speaking to a female member of my family (either my mother or sister). I'm telling her that I'm thinking of changing my name to "lexicon".

I've already figured that ICEE might be a pun for "I see", and that the sky may be a symbol of danger and bruises. Another person has suggested that the ICEE machine in the empty lot might signify loneliness. I later figured that the lack of a building around it might indicate "unsheltered". This second dream is one that has been on my mind for a long time now.
