LiberalRaver Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 That is cool man Is it only the bullets or also the gun that was 3d printed? Thanks for sharing.
Bodeswell Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 It's the first successful 3-D printable by Defense Distributed, they have also tried an AR-15 lower, but it can only take half a dozen shots or so until breaking, so it is still being worked on.
Metric Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Even if you're not a gun owner, you can click on the "mega pack" (their full collection of printable guns/components) in the following link and have the next best thing as your permanent property -- the ability to print a gun whenever you like. There are already two "reinforced" versions of the AR lower in the list (the "lower" is the part that is legally considered "the gun" -- you can have the upper and all parts necessary to complete it, and it's not considered a gun until you put it on a lower). Presumably they last longer than the first prototype that made news a month or so ago. http://defcad.org/browse/
Bodeswell Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 As far as I am aware from an interview on Adam vs the Man they have some designs for guns but aren't able to print them until they recieve their FFL and some other specific certificate from the ATF to manufacture weapons without metal in them.
empyblessing Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 This technology will be impossible to control for the government just like it's impossible to stop file sharing of copyrights.
Metric Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 This tech is advancing quickly. Demonstration of a new printable AR design that does not break after 600+ rounds of high-speed testing.
AnarcoB Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Sounds like a good reason to restrict acces to 3D printers!
