Guest NateC Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Just completed my second therapy session, and the results of just two sessions and two weeks of journaling are amazing. My energy level has increased a whole point on a 10 point scale, and I feel almost emotionally exhausted with all I've been writing in the journal (I think this a good thing). What I've found particularly helpful about my therapist is that she provides accountability and suggestions such as selling my video games, which I had desired to do beforehand but lacked the initiative because of the social connections with online friends (friends whose emotional development definitely haven't helped my own). She is also very good at contrasting my thoughts with objective reality, and I'm surprised how unaware I've been to these ungrounded negative loops in my head. She did recommend a drug called Paxil, but I told her my concerns based on the research Stef and others have on anti-depressants. Despite the drug thing, this therapy experience has thus far been very positive.
ih8microsoft Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Interesting, I haven't really heard any of Stefan's perspectives on anti-depressants. I will have to listen to a few podcasts on the subject. Glad to hear that you are making progress with your therapy. Keep it up!
Guest NateC Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Thanks. Podcast 1590 talks about anti-depressants as well as the video below. [VIEW:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnqoAlD8PmI]
courtneycm Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Congrats on getting into therapy. It takes a lot of courage to take that step. It's hard work but the rewards are SO worth it. Good for you also for standing up for yourself and not taking the drugs. Numbing yourself is the opposite of what you're trying to do by going to therapy and journaling!
