Guest darkskyabove Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Are not they one and the same. Determinism has been banned from this forum. Isn't "GOD", in whatever form, deterministic. I , wholeheartedly, wish for rational discourse. Which means: I accept other's disagreement. Clue: "RATIONAL DISCOURSE". Debating the 'super'-natural is an exercise in futility. We have enough problems debating the 'natural'. I have little desire to castigate others for their "faith". But, let's face facts, religion is responsible for more evil throughout history than any other factor. Why does it keep coming up? Liberty is the antithesis of religion. If people are, truly, free, why would they succumb to obeying a myth. Claiming the non-existent, in whatever form, is irrational. Why would I converse with an irrational person? Might as well go chasing dragons!!!
RestoringGuy Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I don't know that religion is generally responsible for evil, but evil people will embrace whatever ideology provides social approval to cloak their actions. If most people thought hockey players, without proof, have superior ethics, suddently evil people would choose to play hockey. That does not make hockey responsible for evil. I do not understand the connection to determinism. I will accept liberty is the antithesis of religion, but there seems to be atheists who subscribe to determinism, and monotheists who say God provides humans a "choice" whether to sin or not.
