MysterionMuffles Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Has anyone taken philosophy in high school? I wanted to know if you get the true essence of philosophy or if there was a cap as to how much of it you could really learn, so that you don't learn too much about reason and evidence enough to, let's say, figure out that religion and the state are faulty? My cousin goes to a catholic high school and takes philosophy, so I wanted to know how much of genuine philosophy she's really being exposed to.
Mick Bynes Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Not that much... from what I remember, the philosophy was not really geunine and I really did not learn much. I actually don't remember it well, so it really wasn't a good class. However, I do remember getting a good final mark in that class. The best and most genuine philosophy I've learned is from FDR and other sources over the Internet. I didn't take it in high school, but I took it at a community college (which is sometimes regarded as 13th grade). So... I think the philosophy they teach in high school and a community college are not terribly different.
