Guest NateC Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Yeah, good movie. I'd watch this over a big budget film any day. Another Earth with Brit Marling is my favorite of her work.
TheRobin Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks for the suggestion.Spoiler alert: I found the ending complete BS though. it's not even an "open ending" it's just placing an arbitrary contradiction on top of the movie for no reason whatsoever. Imo that's just bad writing. I didn't find it too thrilling a movie though. Not bad and certainly better than what usually runs in theaters (or what did run in theaters last time I actually checked, which is over a year ago anyway), but I found its kind of the usualy arbitrary divide of reason and emotion mixed with lack of communication skills and partial dishonesty and emotional unavailability of the protagonists, so I didn't really get much out of it.What about the movie did you find particularly intersting or exciting?Btw, if you like this one, do you know the movie "Safety not garantueed" and "The Man from Earth"? If not I have a feeling you might enjoy those as well.
Guest NateC Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I watched the movie prior to delving into the psychology stuff on FDR, and enjoyed it because I was curious how it was going to play out. Definitely going to check out those other two movies.
MysterionMuffles Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I found it exciting that Peter had a revenge fantasy to carry out because his own mother died of cancer, due to being part of a cult that rejected modern medicine. Then found it even more interesting that not only did he want to take Maggie down, there were moments where he wanted her to replace his lack of a mother. The entire premise of course was great that they were almost getting brainwashed into something they wanted to remain objective on.
MysterionMuffles Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Another Earth was an interesting idea, but I don't think the execution of it was all that good. It seemed to be have told through too much exposition via news reports. I had reservations about The East and The Sound of My Voice because Another Earth was a let down, but Brit Marling has won her spot in my heart as the indie queen I would also like to bump this back up since I still think this is a worthwhile watch! Huh reposting here seems to have deleted the first original post? here's the trailer in case my original post doesn't return. I'll let it speak for itself this time.
