RobertAdams Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 http://fluid.media.mit.edu/projects/smarter-objects This is some of the coolest technology I've seen in a while. It could really shine if integrated with heads up displays like those used in google glass. In particular I've been getting excited about the virtual door opening that they showcase in the video. It would be excellent to have keypads with changing numbers that are displayed only on the HUD and can be shuffled between accesses. This way the users do not have to memorize different passcodes and a person looking over their shoulder can't see the code without seeing the glass HUD. The shuffled number status is transmitted over short range wireless protocol (NFC, bluetooth, etc.) to authorized devices so only people with access can even see the number status. If a device is stolen the thief still can't get in since they do not know the access code, just the current status of the numbers.
