'Why were police so angry?': Turkish protesters slam police brutality, return to Taksim Square

Not that long ago the response to anti-authoritarian protest would have been the lethal extermination of the protesters. Police are trained in the use of force, but are rarely provided opportunities to use it. When the chance appears it seems to release a form of primal rage. Add to that the historical lack of consequences for police brutality, and we are left with little, or no, incentive for them to restrain their behavior.

Imagine, if you will, the political outrage if a SWAT team invaded the home of a politician's son's family, shot their dog, and the son, and the warrant was for a different address. Yet, it happens all too frequently, just not to the elites.
