222 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 On more than one occasion I have had to break up my thoughts in the chatroom to multiple posts because of the small character limit. I'm not sure if the old chat had any sort of limit and as I have never had this problem before, I'm thinking it didn't. Changing this would be much appreciated.
Wesley Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I think this would go into the new issues app (top right corner) as a suggestion. I am sure this will be seen either way, but I think that is where they are trying to move issues and suggestions to not distract from the board and to clearly "list" what changes may need to be made.
JamesP Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 This is one of those things that I would request that you try to get accustomed to. There isn't a setting somewhere that I can just modify to change the character limit, so that means changing code. Surely it would be more conversational to speak in sentences in a chat setting?

You guys seem very fussy in your chat room. Was I banned or something for simply talking about atheism? JamesP or someone banned me from it for no good reason. Isnt this "Free"Domain Radio?
222 Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 James, I appreciate your time and consideration on the matter. This is by no means an emergency issue, but even if it could be put on a to-do list somewhere that would be nice. It's a chatroom of philosophers. The current limit is 450 characters, which translates to only 3 or 4 fairly substantial sentences. It doesn't happen all that frequently, I'll admit, but the limit is something I've run into a few times. It's usually in the midst of developing an idea, and then I'm faced with an awkward decision of letting the first part hang as I finish up the second, or moving to an external word processor and doing multiple copy-pastes. Then there's the issue of quoting itself. Wanting to quote text from an outside source is almost going to guarantee at least 3 or 4 copy-pastes. And a list? Forget it. There isn't even an ability to "shift-return" to the next line in the message box. None of these are catastrophic on their own, but I think hands down the best choice is to have no character limit (and the shift-return wasn't something that even occurred to me til now). I can't remember it ever being abused prior, so I can't find a downside.
JamesP Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 This isn't something I'm able to do, sorry about that.
