Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Nearly one-third of recent U.S. military veterans have considered committing suicide, according to a new survey An astonishing survey from a veterans group found that 30 per cent of recent military vets have considered committing suicide since returning from active duty.The Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) surveyed more than 4,000 of its members, 37 per cent of whom said they personally knew a recent vet who took his or her own life. Overall, 45 per cent reported knowing a fellow soldier, sailor, airman or Marine who has tried to commit suicide.The former active-duty ranked suicide as the most important issue facing Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.Fully 63 per cent - nearly two-thirds - said they have veteran friends whom they believe need medical help dealing with a mental health issue brought on by combat. And more than half polled in the survey admitted that someone close to them has suggested that they need mental health care.

At least 22 veterans commit suicide each day, according to the Veterans Affairs Department. This adds up to more than 2,000 veterans killing themselves so far this year alone, and the military community is facing what advocates refer to as a suicide epidemic.
dsayers Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I'm really truly sorry that these people suffer like this. On the other hand, I'm glad that awareness of the immorality is becoming this unstoppable. If the enforcer class told the ruling class that they now reject their claim to be held to a different moral category despite no rational basis, we'd have a bloodshed-less revolution today. At the very least, if the enforcer class began to similarly speak out, the "support our troops" crowd would be forced to start facing the propaganda. Don't know if it'll happen in my lifetime, but it is encouraging to understand how unstoppable this is.
