Guest Cosmic42 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I am a music lover and I love high-end stereo. I also prefer older technology such as turntables and tubes. To me CD's don't even come close to a good truntable and 200gm vinyl. There's something about the smell of hot transformers and tubes that makes me all weak and fuzzy inside. I associate the smell with music I love. Unfortunately I can't afford the level of technology I really 'goosepimple' over. 100k, in current monetary terms, is the neighborhood I like to start at. My current system, though impressive to the regular high-end ipod listener, it is barely reasonable to me. Anyway..... I was watching a movie the other night called "Looper" and there was a scene where the main character in the future was playing an LP on a fastenating turntable I had never seen before. I went out on the web and found it. It's call a JA Michell Gyro SE Turntable. The site even has a video of it in operation. How cool is that?! Though my Rega 3 is decent, this turntable is really cool to watch..it's mesmerizing. But with the tonearm and accesories at about 8k, it's out of my reach. However.... Like Stefan, I do take donations....
Tony Crowe Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 That's an interesting... interest you have there. I feel like I really missed out on a lot of the analog audio experience. I grew up in a time when vinyls and cassettes were popular but my parents constructed a force field of anger and ignorance around the cheap ass audio equipment they had. Still, some love of music made it into my life but it was primarily in the realm of CDs and mp3 in the early days. Now, plenty of the musicians I like publish in digital and vinyl. If it were not expensive I would like to hear them on an analog audio system. Cosmic1, what would be your ideal home system? And, why on earth would you need 100K?
Guest Cosmic42 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi deformated, I can't tell you. I can't even look at equipment anymore because I can't stand not having it! lol The last system I looked at that really grabbed my attention was in a highend place in San Diego on Balboa 10 years ago. It was a very non-discript system, plain, simple, but wow! I thought, "Hummmm, maybe I can afford that!" So I asked the sales guy "So what's the price tag on that little system over there?" He replied "It's on sale, 78k and change." lol I gave up. However I do like the specs on some of the Goldmund collection, like the power amp and the speakers. Though those are getting a bit extreme. I would have to shop around because I don't know what's currently avaliable to be able to be specific. But I like mono blocks but those are pretty conservative. I like it when I can reproduce a live concert like I'm in the 5th row center.
