JacktheThriller Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 What do people think of the UFC/fight sports? I know the stance for non violence/aggression is extremely important and I am unclear about this topic. The image of violence is still being transmitted. However, it seems the in the sporting arena this sort of voluntary pre-arranged bout is ok. I have to admit I find it entertaining. And its not a macho thing I dont believe. I watch most of these events alone at home. I dont talk about it with many people. I really dont know, give me your thoughts.
Pepin Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 It isn't immoral because the fighting is voluntary. It still might not be considered good, in the same way that prostitution is not considered good. A large percentage of these people are recreating previous trauma in their life and enabling this is quite sketchy. Stefan has a few videos out about the subject. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRuBO_VbGFI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSUyEgS48rs Personally, I lean more towards Stefan's arguments, but it isn't something that I have very strong thoughts or feelings about either way, likely because it isn't something that I ever think about.
Rob_Ilir Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 There was that study that if you see violence/pain on others, your own body tenses up too, nearly in the same exact places. I wish there was a better study, but I try not to put myself in such a position to begin with. I find "fail videos" with the usual background laughter even more disturbing, but in the same category.
