PhilipJ Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I've had some recent experiences around the punctuality of other people, and the value of time, and decided to share my thoughts on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OccuJgiyQ4A
Ruben Zandstra Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Great video. Were you reprimanded as a child for not being on time at all? I got verbally attacked by my Dad each and every time I made him wait. Scary and totally hypocrite. So I'm kind of ambivalent about my punctuality. And also about getting angry when people show up late all the time. Over the years, some people I confronted with their being late repeatedly would sit me down and explain how they were simply more relaxed around themselves and other people, less demanding and critical, and how I should perhaps learn a thing or two. I've been taking that shit serious for many years.
Coreforcruxes Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Great video. Fantastic pointing out that even if you are on time but rushed there and were not metally present, you did not really show up on time.thought on respecting others time: I used to work at a poker room, and when a guest would take too much time to act, and question me on why I was kindly requesting they speed up. i would explain to them that it was not only my time they spent but the other 9 players as well, so one minute wasted (so you could explain to the cocktail waitress how to prepare your salad, or flirt with her) was actually 10 minutes of human time down the drain.
PhilipJ Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback! I used to work at a poker room, and when a guest would take too much time to act, and question me on why I was kindly requesting they speed up. i would explain to them that it was not only my time they spent but the other 9 players as well, so one minute wasted (so you could explain to the cocktail waitress how to prepare your salad, or flirt with her) was actually 10 minutes of human time down the drain. That's a great example. I think it says a lot about the average person's capacity to really think, empathize, and be considerate of others beyond the basics.
