Howard Roark Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Hey FDR Board, first I wanted to extend my deepest gratitude to you all for supporting & furthering Stefan Molyneux's sepcific - and in my opinion - criticlally important contribution to the realm of philosophy. Without you & Stefan, I would still be in the fog that was my previous life, completely unaware that anything was amiss. So, I do have a lot of things I would wish to ask for your opinions on, but in the interest of time I'll focus on the most salient one. I'm fortunate in that I have a good career path ahead of me, and I could be comfortable with a good amount of work in the next 5 years. However, I can't seem to focus my energies properly - I always find myself mentally drifting, and focusing on other problems in my life. The ironic thing is - fixing my career is probably the easiest path to solving these other problems. I also wonder if I have a fear of success - I always seem to self-destruct when I come close to acheiving my goal, and I rarely follow through the plans I make for myself. I was wondering if anyone else has overcome similar issues, and could give me some pointers / and/or direct me to resources you've found helpful? If so, I would greatly appreciate it. I know this is somewhat vague, but I would prefer not to bore you with the specific details of my situation, and my other issues would require multiple fairly involved posts. I look forward to conversing with you all. Eternally grateful, Vincent
Lians Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Welcome aboard, Vincent! I think the specific details will be of great use, but I'll ask questions instead: Are you able to focus on particular tasks (no matter how small) for long periods of time? Were your parents supportive of your interests, indifferent or actively discouraged them while you were growing up? Do your parents have successful careers or do they face issues similar to yours?
wdiaz03 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Howdy, It might be worth listening to Stef podcast on procrastination. I see one in the Bronze premium files. which comes from FDR966. see if that brings any insight.
