I just put together and published a post on using PGP/GPG to encrypt traditional email. In light of continuing revelations that many email service providers may have compromised security, I felt it appropriate to cover the topic. The article can be found at the below link:

The combination of thunderbird, GPG, and enigmail is the simplest I could come up with. I hope that it helps at least a few of you that might not be well acquainted with encrypting traditional email.
