FriendlyHacker Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I live in a large apartment complex, there are many small children living around here, and at least once a day I hear children cry, often not the same child. This really makes me distressed, because these children cry like someone is bulging their eye balls out, and I mostly can't understand what is going on, the times I did understand what was going on, I learned that they can cry like that while taking medication or for simply being told to leave the playground. So even though they cry like they are being abused, so far I have no real evidence of it and don't really know how to deal with it. Any advice?
ThatAtheistPlace Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Earplugs? If you do hear thrashing around and loud bumps and then crying, or something to that effect, call the police. If you see someone simply neglecting their child, call the police. Otherwise, I'd chalk it up to the reasons you gave or bad parenting. (surprise surprise)
FriendlyHacker Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 No, I don't hear thrashing around, loud bumps or adults screaming. I really can't understand why children would have temper tantrums like that though.
CrazyCanuck Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 It's hardly to tell many cases sometimes kids cry because they were playing and getting hurt. I never this one couple with kids and the crying wasn't the same. It really sounded like the children were abused. These people were noisy people to begin with. The thing was I couldn't call the police because they would use other people and themselves to make noise to disturb me and even kick my door frequently. I don't know if they moved but I don't hear them or see them anymore. My other neighbour are pretty bad getting their children to bad things and then yelling at them frequently, having loud parties. I think these children might be physically abused also but it's really hard to tell when they are making so much noise to begin with.
Wesley Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 No, I don't hear thrashing around, loud bumps or adults screaming. I really can't understand why children would have temper tantrums like that though. I think that children have temper tantrums because they cannot express themselves in a healthy manner. Imagine you are incredibly uncomfortable and there are people around you who can help you. You will ask for help. They ignore you. You might then ask a little louder, and they may still ignore you. You may then thrash about or yell or try to do something to get attention and then they may listen and help you. The next time you are uncomfortable, you are much more likely to start at a louder and more thrashing level than at the quiet asking for help. After all, you were punished when you just asked by being ignored for genuine expression and rewarded at least with some attention for creating a tantrum. Then these parents then always wonder why their kids have many tantrums. It is true that crying could be some normal. Kids play and get hurt and in general express emotions very fully when they are sad and not scolded into not expressing themselves. However, I would guess that this situation is somewhat worse than that if it is happening so regularly and so forcefully, but it is a good point that it may not be the result of abuse or neglect by the parents. I wish that when I felt sad I was able to fully express my feelings like a child can. Not in a tantrum way, but to really cry deeply when I am sad. That was beat and yelled out of me though and it has been very difficult for me to relean how to express myself emotionally.

I was just thinking that. How sad it must be for the children that you don't hear who are neglected, given the evil eye, starved or whose souls have just generally been crushed.
