Given that there are some callers with really lousy microphones (myself included), which hinders the quality of the audio and ultimately of the show, albeit not significantly, I think it would be great if we could have some recommendations on which microphones to buy, pros and cons, value for price, etc.

I recommend the Turtle Beach Ear Force X12. I've owned it for several years and the sound quality is excellent. I paid around $45 for it.

If you're looking for professional quality sound then I recommend the Audio Technica AT2020 USB. It's around $100.

Gaming headsets tend to have pretty good microphones. The price is the biggest indicator in quality I've found. Unless you intend on doing a lot of mic work, I wouldn't recommend buying dedicated mic.

I used a gaming headset (now no longer in production) when I was helping with the Sunday show.

The microphone is only part of the equation, however.  A quiet, controlled environment is probably the most important component.  Having a connection with adequate bandwidth is essential as well.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'll give the Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 a try, if I can find them where I live. I was also thinking that they would be useful not only for the show, but also If I wanted to work from home and had a conference over the internet or something, sound quality would be very important too.
