Parts_Welcomed Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this thread. I am looking for recommendations on information regarding addiction. There is a LOT of information out there on the topic and I would like to find some based in or at least related to philosophy, self-knowledge, IFS, etc. Thank you so very much!
Darius Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Hi fenetre, one of the best books on addiction I've read was "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts" by Gabor Mate. If you're not sure, you can watch a couple of videos and see if that's what you're looking for. These two would be a good start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ-FAX4Pz8I Also, I find this essay to be valuable: http://wildtruth.net/the-root-cause-of-addiction/
Parts_Welcomed Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Thank you Darius. This is exactly what I was looking for. I listened to both videos you posted here in addition to a few others on YT. The article was brief but indeed valuable. Any more suggestions of authors and/or speakers along these lines would be much appreciated. I will look into Mate's book today. Thanks again Also (this is for anyone), has Stef done any shows about addiction or had any call-ins who brought up this topic?

Wuzzums Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 A book that helped me was The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. Not so sure it can help you with your addiction but what it can do is show you how to replace one habit with another of your choosing.

dsayers Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 It didn't exist when this thread was created, so I'll post it now: . The first half talks about the physiology of addiction. I think this is definitely one of Stef's top 10 ever.
