Alan C. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Most sponsors of minimum wage hike bill don't pay interns The Employment Policies Institute found that 96 percent of House and Senate sponsors of the minimum wage bill do not pay their interns. That includes lead bill sponsors, like Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, according to the study. As a whole, most members of Congress -- whether they support an increased minimum wage or not -- do not pay interns. But the Employment Policies Institute argues that the practice shows "sponsors are legislating with a 'do as I say, not as I do' approach."
Magnus Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 There's an awesomely awkward video on YouTube of Jan Helfeld interviewing Nancy Pelosi on this issue. She clearly had no idea he'd be asking those kinds of questions. She kicked him out of her office. Called security and everything. Helfeld was a lot nicer about it than I would have been, I think.
Cosmin Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Thanks Magnus, I had not heard of Jan Helfeld. His interviews with the political scumbags are delicious!
Carl Green Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Yeah this Jan Helfeld guy's great, thanks Magnus.
corpus mentium Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 “… I believe that there is, in this country, a large body of people who devalue the work of people who.. erm...erm... who work in the system.” No kidding? Can we say projection boys and girls? Magnus, you were certainly right about the interview being awesomely awkward. It was so awkward for me that my abs are sore from seven minutes of cringing. Maybe we could market this as a new Abs of Steel installment.
