Magnus Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I don't normally read National Review Online, but a quote came into my field of vision from Kevin Williamson (otherwise unknown to me) that summed up the nature of the State of the Union address. I love a good adjective, and thought some FDR friends might enjoy this passage: The annual State of the Union pageant is a hideous, dispiriting, ugly, monotonous, un-American, un-republican, anti-democratic, dreary, backward, monarchical, retch-inducing, depressing, shameful, crypto-imperial display of official self-aggrandizement and piteous toadying, a black Mass during which every unholy order of teacup totalitarian and cringing courtier gathers under the towering dome of a faux-Roman temple to listen to a speech with no content given by a man with no content, to rise and to be seated as is called for by the order of worship — it is a wonder they have not started genuflecting — with one wretched representative of their number squirreled away in some well-upholstered Washington hidey-hole in order to preserve the illusion that those gathered constitute a special class of humanity without whom we could not live.
Mishelle Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 ug. the only interesting expression there was "squirreled away" how dull the critics, can spew loads of mirth, but no matter how angered or how justified, it's pretty clear it's still a kind of worshiping.
LanceD Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 That's a great quote! Thank you very much for sharing it
aeonicentity Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I liked the part where Obama said that women 'should be able to take days off to take care of their kids' -RIOTOUS APPLAUSE- 'and men should too!' -One clap-

aeonicentity Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 That's really funny, in an awful and demented sort of way, but I can't believe you actually WATCHED the beastly thing! I believe in staying abrest of the dictator-in-chief. My other favorite part was when the entire congress gave massive applause and shouts of joy for single mothers.
Longshot Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 For a second there I thought I was watching stand-up comedy, but sadly I realized it was just a series of unfathomable lies. I still can't believe he had the balls to feed the public all that bullshit!
James Dean Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Watching any of that shit just gives me an honest to god panic attack. I can't even.
