Guest jnyl42 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Stef recently said in one of his shows that they were experimenting with a lower compression bitrate, and I wanted to leave some feedback. I'm no audiophile, but the recordings sound significantly worse to me. It's like Stef's voice has been reduced to caller quality, and the callers sound like they're talking over a baby monitor. It's really harsh to listen to, especially in the car or with headphones. I'm surprised no one else has brought it up so far and wondered if anyone else felt the same way. I understand the need to support bandwidth use, but maybe there's something that can be done with the codec. I've seen low-bitrate AAC+ work amazingly for web radio... maybe that's an option? Or maybe I'm just too picky and should stick to the Youtube channel Those are really nice quality.
WorBlux Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Opus has won just many listening test across the board from high to very low bitrates It beats AAC even as high as 64kbps http://soundexpert.org/news/-/blogs/opus-aac-and-vorbis-in-64-kbit-s-section 32kbps with give you high-quality voice, wheras 32kbps mp3 is like a cat scratching your eardrums. http://www.opus-codec.org/examples/
