AnarchoBenchwarmer Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 How about it, Stefan? I haven't seen you rip apart an article like this in... Hmm. Well, at least a week. http://www.salon.com/2014/02/02/why_youre_wrong_about_communism_7_huge_misconceptions_about_it_and_capitalism/
Kevin Beal Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Oh yes. I second this idea! I love the article analyses.
LanceD Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Lol that article is awesome. Just in the first point he refers to taxation as "economic justice", then tells the reader if they practice his brand of communism we can keep our smartphones! I hope Stefan fulfills the request because I think it would make for a very entertaining show.
dsayers Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I was going to tear the whole thing apart, but as Mad Dog Tannen said: "I only need one." property rights rely on violence Without property rights, we have no way of identifying what constitutes violence.
Wesley Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 You can tell it is a silly argument from the opening picture, where Communism is represented by a black and white, serious picture of Karl Marx and Capitalism is represented by a caricature of a Wall Street guy in the form of an actor smoking a cigar in a nice suit. Right there you can tell it isn't a serious attempt at philosophical or economic critique, but a way to attempt to normalize Communism and caricature Capitalism in the eyes of the public who may not know better.
kalmia Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 "Where there isn't a state, whoever has the most violent power determines who gets the stuff" The argument here is that without a state, things that are currently done by those claming state power would be done by someone. The myth of those with state power serving everyone in some egalitarian collective way is needed for this to make any sense.
