MysterionMuffles Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Marijuana Migration: Family Moves to Colarado For Cannabis Therapy For Children The federal government lists marijuana as a Schedule I drug, grouping it with the “most dangerous” substances, including heroin, LSD and methamphetamine. That classification places enormous restrictions on scientists, medical experts and pharmaceutical companies making in-depth research and clinical trials on the drug “nearly impossible,” says Dr. Amy Brooks-Kayal, vice president of the American Epilepsy Society, which supports medical cannabis research. “We have a great need for new therapies in epilepsy, but the challenge (with medical marijuana) is that all we have is anecdotal evidence,” said Brooks-Kayal, a Colorado-based neurologist. Dr. Judith Feinberg, associate chair for the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati's College of Medicine explained that legalizing marijuana in states where it is banned would not necessarily translate into new research for cannabis-based ground-breaking drugs. Approval for new drugs by the FDA requires the interest of pharmaceutical firms, committed to spending big on research for drugs that will return them a profit.
dsayers Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I say good. The more segments of the population that realize the destructive power of coercion, the more likely it will be that when the empire falls, people will not be scrambling, looking for the next demagogue that claims to know what's best for them to rule over us.
J-William Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 That's great! It sure would be better if the government wasn't standing in the way of therapies for potentially life threatening conditions... The pictures of cute kids killed by statism would make for the longest and most depressing slide-show ever.
weeb Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I don't know if Stef coined this phrase, but he called it a "medical refugee". Whatever the case, you go where you can live the best. When quality of life is at stake, especially for a child, it really puts the spotlight on the cruelty of blanket medical restrictions that end up making people suffer. A government monopoly always takes away freedom/choice/liberty/free will/options/quality from the customers of that industry. This issue becomes very real very quickly when you find yourself in this situation. Shame on the state. Charlotte's Web has a high CBD content and a low THC content; therefore, it will give her the most therapeutic effects for her condition, saving any possible euphoria (unauthorized mood improvement) from THC. The potential for cannabinoids to work as neuroprotectants and immune suppressants also show great promise for post-head trauma and immune-comprimised patients respectively. Thanks to the ingenious folks that have turned the green market from black to gray!
