Former Mendenhall police chief sentenced to five years in federal prison for extortion, bribery, theft

...from January 2010 through July 2010, Barlow instructed Mendenhall police officers to pull over motorists and find ways to gain access into and search their vehicles. He also instructed his officers to seize cash at every arrest, including arrests for misdemeanor charges.

When Barlow was interviewed by FBI agents on March 7, 2013, he admitted to stealing money and property and allowing others to take property seized by the Mendenhall Police Department from the victims after an arrest or detention.

So my fear of cops is real. When I first started driving I got pulled over for not having my lights on, I had not even noticed it.Man everything that he was doing made me feel uncomfortable. I should mention that I do have a terrible response to authority in general.

But they do have a lot of power and you simply do not. The double standard and the real gun to enforce it.

Thx for the share.

It doesn't matter any more. When I see reports like this I merely wonder who he offended to get nailed like this. Because my basic presumption is that they all do it and only the out of favour get "caught". Otherwise I wonder if he is in fact less corrupt than he needed to be to stay in the system

You could be right. Recently there was a 8 years sentence in Czech republic for elite cop from the most elite UOOZ brigade that deal with organized crime and terrorism (recently they do the raid in mosque, telling people (including diplomats) not to move or they will be shot in the process) for selling part or whole crime case files to third parties:

I think that power corrupt. The more power, the more the corruption grows. Unless people can remove the corrupted from power by some mechanism, we never stand a chance to the free money corruption offer.

...and if corrupted police chiefs are not enought, then check out these corrupted judges:

They take bribes to get the paying customers released from jail pronto on probations and in some cases not even go in :) In one case they manipulated with evidence too. I think the whole justice is corrupted beyong repair in Czech republic, and I dubt it will be significantly better elsewhere.
