trodas Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Studies consistently show, that exposing population to lead in the gasoline, cause 20 years later very nicely corresponding rise in crime. And from the ban of lead fuel, it looks like that the crime is falling nicely, despite there are more people and the economic conditions are hardening: Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-27067615 "Studies have shown that exposure to lead during pregnancy reduces the head circumference of infants. In children and adults, it causes headaches, inhibits IQ and can lead to aggressive or dysfunctional behaviour." "When the amount of lead in the environment increased, Nevin showed a corresponding rise in violent crime two decades later. And when the amount of lead in the environment fell, violent crime also tracked down - again about 20 years later." "There is a substantial causal relationship," she says. "I can see it in the state-to-state variations. States that experienced particularly early or particularly sharp declines in lead experienced particularly early or particularly sharp declines in violent crime 20 years later." So not only spanking poisoning the minds to people become more violent, these poisons work as well.
fractional slacker Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Lead in gasoline? The greenies will stop at nothing to "save" the planet by crippling energy production and hence reducing population. Lots of violence in places that never used leaded gasoline or any modern products containing lead.
Edinburger Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Lead in gasoline? The greenies will stop at nothing to "save" the planet by crippling energy production and hence reducing population.Lots of violence in places that never used leaded gasoline or any modern products containing lead. The 'greenies' have made a pretty good case on this occasion.Yes there is violence in lead-free places because lead is not the only contributing factor causing violence.
dsayers Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 This is voodoo pharmacology. A person who is not exposed to violence will not be violent.
Dylan Lawrence Moore Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I'm totally confused by the independent variable. Which years is the graph going off of?
Daniel Unplugged Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 The author of the article is trying to manipulate the readers into believing something that is not true. Here is how I know. His premise is that the amount of lead PER CAPITA causes the crime rate. Hence if a city's population doubles, and the per capita emissions of lead stays the same, the crime rate will not change, even though double the amount of lead is in the air. He has blatently demonstrated that lead emissions do not cause crime. What is more disturbing though, is that the article is from BBC, and people actually fall for this crap. Debunked!
