Transport Minister Frederic Cuvillier blamed an "absurd rail system" for the problem, referring to changes made by a previous government in 1997." lol
Alan C. Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The economist asks, "How do they know that they need trains in the first place?"
Daniel Unplugged Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Only in a government run institution would such a balls up occur, and only in a government institution could such a balls up be blamed on the people who used to be running things and be gotten away with. There is (almost) no level of incompetence, corruption, manipulation or fascism that the people will not let their government get away with. People get the government's that they are willing to tolerate. The only exceptions are revolutions. Neither Hitler, Mao, Stalin or Kim Il Sung had a revolution from their people. People really just don't care what their rulers do to them. They accept that their rightful place on Earth is that of a slave. It's easier than standing up for something.
BlackHeron Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Metric system FTW! I can see how this happened though. Bad data in the databases. Poor record-keeping. Cutting of corners. Standards not being followed, etc. Mistakes like this do happen in the free market, but they are self-correcting and the folks that make them PAY for them. I wonder if anyone is even going to lose their job for this one?

J-William Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Frankly I think the proper response to this is to be glad the French government didn't put the trains on the tracks and start getting people killed. Though I guess in an Atlas shrugged kind of way that might've been appropriate too.
meta Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Metric system FTW! I can see how this happened though. Bad data in the databases. Poor record-keeping. Cutting of corners. Standards not being followed, etc. I would take you up on a debate on the metric system.Because it makes tremendous sense. No offence but America hanging to that middle age "feet, inch, yard, gallons, onces" is just pathological and scientifically ridiculous. It was not a data management problem. Alstom just followed international and european regulations. The problem is actually that the railway station is too narrow, because too old.France having a huge railway network, and international standards being frequently unified and modified, this kind of problems happens often. in country where their actually are railways ( jk)This is a non-problem, that somehow found it's way here, sensationalist main stream bs... (I have friends working at Alstom and I did a bit of research before making fun of them, that is how i found out the railway was the problem)
