Getting Annoyed Over Trivial Stuff Other People Do.

I remember I was once in a supermarket with this girl I was dating, we where just buying booze and snacks so went through those self-serve tills and the guy in front wasn't having much joy with it, fumbling about, putting things in the 'bagging area' when he shouldn't, then when it comes time to pay his wallet's still in his pocket.....then he can't get the £20 in the slot.

Anyway he finally got away and she began ranting about how annoying she found stupid people who didn't have their shit together.

and even at the time I remember thinking, 'So what, he's made us wait in line maybe an extra 2 minutes, max. Aren't there 1001 more egregious things going off in the world?'(...like guys letting girls get away with spouting any old bollocks because they want to sleep with them :whistling:)

but it's one of those things that when you start noticing it, it's everywhere.

I honestly reckon 95%+ of all those rant videos you see on YouTube

are about totally asinine shit.....like other peoples taste in music.

I'll catch myself doing it too of course, for example I've never really understood why people (often having just got their first job out of university and back living at home with their parents), will go straight out and buy a brand new car on finance..

To me it's all kinds of senseless vanity.

but who are they actually harming?

Yet, sadly at one time, I could easily launch into 'passionate' rants on the subject,

while remaining totally unmoved by real evil in the world,

like people beating their kids.

That's really messed up isn't it?

and isn't that's the whole purpose of these trivialities?

Avoiding morality, at all costs.

Your post makes me think of one of my favorite quote of Stefan,How much can they strech the bullshit. He was refering to a book about soccer analytics...That is fascinating indeed. Like you I participate yet it disgusts me.

It's a socail meme i guess. Never participating would make us  ermits.

But to me the purpose is not avoiding morality.I think there is no purpose.I guess bullshit stretching is  the pointless result of everyady logistics.

The only way I see it as harmful is that it is a complete waste of time...

Coming from very manipulative parents, I found myself constantly annoyed by pretty much everything. Once I began to pursue self-knowledge, I realized that most of the reason crap annoys me is because it's indicative of people "getting away with it." Whereas I was never able to and was constantly managed. The problem for me is that knowing this doesn't make most of it any less annoying. It only serves to make me less likely to rant about it.

Yeah can really hear you there dsayers,

I was raised by my very working class grandparents, who grew up in the 1930's,

so while the guy in the supermarket didn't provoke a reaction from me, ideas of,

going into debt, living above your means, 'thinking you're something you're not'

obviously trigger their parental alter egos in my head?

Being passionate about subjective things allows you to experience the excitement of being passionate without any risk.  You can get into fights without anyone getting genuinely hurt.  Philosophy can cure this, but you have to be careful as to not lose that passion entirely where it's needed.

Self-checkout machines are quite a feat of design, because you are faced with the end user being completely ignorant and you have to train them in real time within a few seconds.  That they work at all is pretty cool.  It does feel a bit weird at first, you feel like you're shoplifting.  You paid, but you didn't talk to anyone wearing a uniform.
