MysterionMuffles
WOW they're not even trying to be subtle with a subtitle like THAT! Oh the propaganda...
RyanT
Sure Stefan's said before, whenever you hear someone say without government 'people' would just run about raping and robbing and killing, it tends to say a lot more about them than anything else.... Magnus
That's funny, because I'm experiencing anarchy right now. But it doesn't look anything like that!
Wuzzums
"Why are these people trying to kill these other people?" "Because...virus? "Already been done." "Because... anarchy?" "Roll with that." I think it's less about them killing each other because of anarchy, and more about them killing each other because of bad storytelling.
RyanT
Think you're onto something there Wuzz, Look at Tarantino, 'How can we set-up where the protagonist commits the most sadistic acts of violence, that the audience can sit enjoy and cheer on....totally guilt free?' 'Hmmm jews killing nazis?.....Ex slaves killing plantation owners?'
nathanm
I'd love to see a bathos-laden satire of this trailer wherein it starts off with all the scary tension about a day of anarchy and then when it comes the dance music kicks in and there's a montage of euphoria and productivity. Businessmen shaking hands, the capitol building overgrown with moss, rusted out tanks, a pile of dusty riot shields, batons and pepper spray in a junkyard, kids running lemonade stands, people buying raw milk, a kid carving a stick with a KNIFE during recess, a shot of a pay stub with no deductions, drug users getting therapy, a smoothly paved road, a modernized classroom with enthusiastic children…whatever else you can think of. A huge production of course, but it would rock.

A huge production of course, but it would rock. Let's do this! We don't have to shoot original video. We can just use stills, or short video clips borrowed from the internet. IN FIVE SECONDS, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE ANARCHY ...
nathanm
Ha! Nice work! What a different world it would be if not for Google image search. That produce aisle is boss hog. I love the use of black shelving in stores.
fractional slacker
That's not anarchy. That's the epitome of statism. Between public school propaganda and hollywood, the public has been programmsed to believe the opposite of anarchy is the same as anarchy. It's flaming mohawks of Mel Gibosn 2.0. Livemike
The Purge is an interesting scenario, but not for the reason that it's producers intended. Why would government give up power for 12 hours? Because it's too long for people to feel safe, long enough for them to kill their enemies in an untraceable manner, but too short for people to organize effective defenses. If the "Purge" was longer people would be able to organize mutual defense pacts, patrols etc. But for 12 hours most people will assume that the best bet is to hunker down under their beds. This is true, if nobody is specifically targeting you. As it was pointed out in the first movie, most people's defenses aren't designed for a concerted attack. While it might seem that the "Purge" makes the elite vulnerable, in fact they can hire guards for so short a time. It's the poor and unconnected that are at risk. If someone is opposing someone rich and powerful, and they die during the "Purge" then it's hard to pin the blame it on the guys who wanted them dead. Even assuming they could be connected to the triggermen, which would be almost impossible, who's to say the triggermen didn't do it for fun? In any case, no laws were broken. In fact most of the people out killing are probably paid by the government to do so, whether they know it or not. Think about it, the sadistic psychopaths will be taken out in the first few years. They are overconfident, unable to control their violent impulses and lack discipline. So they kill a few people in ways that expose them to people firing back. Many of them therefore die. Of those that don't many brag about what they've done. The relatives and friends of their victims hire killers to hunt them down. Between psychopaths who just enjoy killing, and people who are prepared to kill evil people for money, the psychos lose. Not necessarily the first time, but eventually. The old "Hey I know where there's a stash of gold" trick works, (did I say gold? I meant C4). So do many other tricks. Most military veterans will be able to take out random psychopaths like they were the mooks in a video game. So why are they still out there years into this? Only one reason, government is propagandizing and paying people to commit random acts of violence.
