Hey everybody!

So, myself and another fdr listener are looking to move to the Asheville, NC area, and we were just wondering if anyone on here is part of/familiar with the Blue Ridge Liberty Project or lives in/familiar with the Asheville, NC area and can provide us with any helpful tips regarding finding work/building a business/networking within the area.

I've already checked several websites, including Meetup.com, Craigslist, and Ebay which have all been very helpful. I have also checked the Blue Ridge Liberty Project website, but the jobs and housing forums have been down for quite some time. I thought I would post here as well.

This is probably going to be one of the most exciting, yet most terrifying moves either one of us has made in our lives, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for replying. =) I'll definitely keep everybody posted on how things go. This is going to be a giant leap, but I have a feeling it will overall be very fulfilling.

Blue Ridge Project basically moved it's forums to the Facebook page if you're looking to contact it's members.

This is awesome; thank you for posting.

Kinda bummed that I could’ve been in Ashevile last weekend for a family function. Could’ve used it as a scouting trip. Suffice to say that Michigan isn’t exactly facilitating a fulfilling life.

Why did these people choose Asheville, NC?

It seems odd to me they wouldn't have started in a state with no income tax.

Did the people who started this idea just happen to live there an think it up as a way to get more like minded people to live where they live?

Having been to every state in the union I wasn't particularly impressed with NC and don't get the appeal.

There are creative ways to overcome all statist hurtles. Something like income tax can be avoided when trading in alternative ways...such as bitcoin or bartering and many different hybrid systems (including possibly creating their own internal system exclusive to their liberty project members living in the immediate community) I'd hate to avoid an area of the country simply due to that area's arbitrary statist structures. I'd rather focus on the physical living conditions available in that area for homesteading and other critical activities.. actually crucial for success.

This also demonstrates how liberty is a universal value & therefore can succeed anywhere! :-D

Yes but chances are you're going to have an income from a job and need to buy gas.NC has a state income tax and a very high gas tax. Why intentionally move to a place with more hurdles to jump?

I'm all for avoiding as many 'statist hurdles' as possible but income tax can be greatly reduced by being properly structured as a 1099 - Independent contractor for tax filing purposes... or getting paid with bitcoin, or any other alternative currency (including bartering)

High gas prices are also mitigated by the ability to itemize deductions and deducting gas on your taxes.  Plus... I'd imagine people that are moving there to be part of the project will not need to drive as much since they'll probably live near each other.. home-school.. and grow a lot of their own food.. reducing a lot of the need for gas that way. (not to mention possibly using bio-diesel, etc..)

But I hear you overall... the less statist structures the better.. though 'making it work' in a populated 'desirable' area (rather than some remote part of the country where less people actually want to live) is really important to attracting more people, faster! :-D
