tiepolo Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 How should a philosophical person respond to cold calls and scam phone calls? On the one hand these are an irritating intrusion, on the other one feels some sympathy for the poor wretches who have to do that job. It must be quite unpleasant sitting in a call centre in India getting phone slammed down on you all day long.
SamuelS Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I don't answer unknown numbers, if it's important I'm sure they'll leave a voicemail.
Wesley Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 "I would like my name and number removed from your list and never contacted again, thanks."
Brentb Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 In the U.S. there is a Do Not Call Registry where you can exclude your number from cold sales calls. I've had to use Wesley's statement to deal with charities that I had given to in the past. It seems like a lot of charities just take my donation and use it to send me junk mail and pay people to call and annoy me. For scams, I just hang up.
MysterionMuffles Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Probably not the most philosophical thing to do, but I usually mimic their accent and mock them with ridiculous refusals. I get offers for duct cleaning and I make jokes about how my house doesn't have vents or that I live in an alleyway that gets phone service.
