Kaizerdave Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 For a growing economy I'm surprised why there is so much distain for gays in Russia?Only a 5th agree that Homosexuality should be tolerated, and if you've seen any of the videos about Russia and Gays, then look at the comment section, its not very pretty. Is there a justifiable reason why there is this problem? And will in the future this lack of tolerance die down?
Seansoup Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I don't know much about Russia, but maybe the most influential factor is their strong beliefs and adherence to the orthodox sect of christianity which most likely discourages homosexuality.
Pleiades Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Hi, Kaizerdave, you're right that there's a lot of intolerance towards gays in Russia. But let's look at Russia honestly for a second. Or over the past couple hundred years. Russia is not known as being humanitarian at all. In fact, their monarchy was pretty crazy when it was still in power. Not just the gays, but a lot of indigenous non "Russians" are treated horribly. A gentleman that I worked with can attest to that. So, I hope it doesn't seem like I'm invalidating your question because I think it's very good, but I think that the scope of it is too small. Why is Russia intolerant to basically every non-Russian Russian?
Bel Rick Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 My brief look into the situation didn't find homophobia. What I found was fear of gay-activism.And as anyone knows in the west. Gay activists hold power way out of proportion to their numbers.Personally I am a fan of people loving each other regardless of sex or age or genetic relationship(e.: I am a man and I love my brothers). Nor do I care if people prefer their own genitals over the other sexes. But I do care when their views dilute the importance of kids have both a mum and a dad and a tradition designed to keep mum's and dad's together.Since gay activists promote their ideology using emotional blackmail and hind brain manipulation I have no issue with Russia responding in kind.(other than the fact that states including Russia even exist lol, but what I am saying is that the abuse of the state works both ways) 1 1
Pleiades Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 My brief look into the situation didn't find homophobia. What I found was fear of gay-activism. Would you mind describing what you've observed? There is some weak evidence showing that children of homosexual parents function just as well as heterosexual. If that's true then the requirement for a healthy child is two caring parents, regardless of their genders. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of gay activism was to have some similar treatments (i.e. marriage) with some protections (i.e. hate crime laws). I don't know if saying they are trying to dilute the importance of a mum and dad staying together.
jacbot Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I thought you were talking about the Russian government, Its pretty tolerant about gays..., there are many gay bars in Moscow..., of course Moscow is a big city so maybe situation will be different in other cities. About anti-gay remarks on youtube being a litmuss test...trolls you have everywhere, not really something definitive. I am not so concerned about Russia,.., I am concerned about Saudi Arabia (a strong US alley) where gays are beheaded publicly on Fridays. Its funny how people follow in lockstep the mainstream media and US government indignation of the anti-gayness of Russia, but heads rolling in SA is kind of ,,,mm omitted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_Saudi_Arabia What Putin thinks about gays?
