NGardner Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Does anyone know if these are more effective than mixed academically? Is there danger socially?
Tree Frog Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Schools do this to limit intimate relationships on campus because it can cause distractions in academics. In my experience with schools like these "Boys can be Boys" in the since that normal male behavior is encouraged (i.e. Rough recreational games and personal "bro to bro" conversations). Typically there is a near by sister school that caters to the opposite sex. These schools will share dances, sporting events, and other academic activities to allow both sexes to build healthy relationships. When I think of single sex schools I think of ones such as Brophy or St. Marks which hold high expectations for their students and are known for a majority of their students getting professional degrees.
jacbot Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 For example for my uni. the number of first year students was totally 400 with only 8 females. Females being a distraction?... depends on the person.
