I really dig the violets (posted July 14), they're my favorite flower, grow em almost every year...and I like the look of the black swan shirt...I like the cover pic...the profile pic one is a bit "busy" w all the texturey stuff on the right side...as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I'm no art critic though, I went to a museum in Chicago once and saw a bunch of "great impressionist paintings" and thought they were all horrible, like the artists just needed to wear glasses or something :P

keep it up, you've definitely developed the skills to get what you want down on the canvas :)

It moves me. From this layman's perspective it looks technically proficient, but I also like how the three smaller flowers are arranged at the base of the bigger flower. It reminds me of a protective mother gathering her young.

Aww thanks! I do however feel that you don't get the full effect of the texture and layering in the photo... and man you can't even imagine how it looked in the state I was making it! ;D

This isn't part of the child art I was speaking of though. None of it's up yet. Plus I am currently working on a metaphorical f***k ton of other paintings at the moment! :)

I'm gonna be famous!!!

It seems like you already have your own style, I think that's great. I like this piece in particular https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10492290_143096729192584_5931956939579278136_n.jpg?oh=7ca49b92732ddc4ab4f6a8420443526a&oe=5439A984

I think your technique isn't that good yet (it is clearly visible in your pencil sketch - the way you shade things/draw lines, too little contrast and also proportions are off) but that surely will come in time and practice so I wouldn't worry about that too much. But then you seem to have very good sense of color when it comes to your paintings.

The idea of parent-child bonding is is really good and I'd love to see it.

Just out of curiosity do you have any experience with selling art already? It's important to find themes that you could actually sell especially if you're just starting.

Do you have dA page? If so maybe you would like to join FDR group on dA http://fdrart.deviantart.com/ some of us are there already :)

Texture is one of those things that doesn't always translate well to photography so if texture is very important and you want people to focus on that above almost anything else then you might want to exaggerate it for the camera. Otherwise looks good. I just want to see more now.

The link is broken for me - it just takes me to my feed. Are the pics posted anywhere else, or could someone link them individually as in Saarl's post?

For me the link didn't work either. Just type callmeviolet in facebook search and you will find the page.

So I was thinking about symbolism after I read this comment.. interesting enough; I didn't do it intentionally, but the big flower is a narcissus flower which is a symbol of narcissism. I didn't know it when I picked the name but violets are used to represent the death of children... also my mother had 3 of us... So really it would represent the narcissistic mother overshadowing and metaphorically killing the children... It's weird because I didn't do it intentionally and now it's associated to it! XP

Really; isn't that good yet? I really disagree with that. Those sketches are literally years old. In fact the portraits are from high school. I would say that's rather impressive for early high school. The paintings are recent. It's why you can see so much more development in them.As of the moment all I have is my Facebook. I'm gonna finish a couple more pieces then probably start a deviant art account. I will post something when I do.

Hi Violet, I was able to see a couple of your paintings on your FB page - I like them.

I have been a full-time professional artist (painter) for over 25 years and I can tell you that if you want to be successful you have to work very hard.  It is the same with anything that you want to be really good at, you know, the 10,000 hours thing.  I also teach painting workshops and give lectures on the business side of the art career.

Its not about the art.  that is the hardest thing for most artists to get their heads around.  I know its ironic.  I said you have to work really hard, ie, make a ton of paintings, but then added that its not about the art...

I can take a person who has been successful, I mean really good, at anything really, business, sports, writing, whatever, and teach them how to make a very good living as an artist within a year or two - all I have to do is teach them to create a marketable product and introduce them to the simple concepts of the market.  Learning to be really good at anything develops character, and in this business you will need a bunch of it to be successful.

I'm not an artist so no critique from me but I really like the flowers and their gradient petals. It reminds me of a really clean style of tagging like a friend of mine would do. I like the swan too, but I wish the pictures were higher resolution. I don't think you'll have any trouble selling your work if that's what you were wondering.

Oooh! The one Saari linked above with the roots/sky is great. If I wasn't so creeped out by the person rooted to the ground I'd want it on a shirt or desktop background. (I get/like the meaning though)

I think it's pretty cool. Not really into 'art' beyond Ren & Stimpy or Looney Tunes, but it's certainly more original and inspiring than the stuff hanging in the coffee shop I go to. The brain to canvas imagery is more interesting than the quaker oats guy, or dogs. And they be asking like $200-$400 for that. Even your flower pictures aren't just 'here's a flower, I painted it'. With a little support, bigger projects, there's a lot of potential. The t-shirt was also pretty rad, with the bird.
