DCLugi Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I'm an actor. I recently did a gig for an FBI training film. I played a character that was approached by a foreign company to give secrets to their company in exchange for money. My characters company talks me into cooperating with the FBI on a sting operation. Wrestling with the decision I eventually "do the right thing" and the foreign company is taken down by the FBI. It's actually a really well produced film but I can't help but feel a little slimy. I'm not sure if it's because technically it's a product for the FBI or that the message in the film is always involving your government is the best solution.
Soren Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Just out of interest what was the training aspect? what if you replaced FBI with DRO would the actions still make sense?
DCLugi Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Just out of interest what was the training aspect? what if you replaced FBI with DRO would the actions still make sense? Well, it wasn't a typical training vid as it was based on a true story. It was more of a "Look how great the FBI is" type film. I'm not sure that a DRO would even have been necessary. If I was the guy in the story I would have told my company that I was being bribed to share secrets and didn't want to breach my contract and that could have been the end of it. Maybe a DRO could put the word out about this shady outfit but I wouldn't participate in a sting operation to get them arrested.
Soren Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Okay interesting question whether a DRO would ever chose to conduct a sting operation? Well I do not think its worth feeling slimy about it was not a NAP violation or something of that nature. And as an actor you will always be doing a kind of propaganda when you act.
